here are some more pages of this zine i started (it's a faux-religious handout pamphlet, but on the element of Water)
Primordial Element of Heat
i finished the wanvil page, come read about Elyon here
so i was working on my magic system and it goes something like this:
a magician pulls metaphysical threads from certain specific stitches (stitch = anything that is) with a hooked wand and intentionally knots and ties them together into one thing, thus relating the original stitches to each other through their new connection point (the knot made)
its called knotwork, and it functions so that the creation of the spell material effectively combines previously unrelated ideas with the magician's intention, purpose and style to create an effect in the world around them.
definitely influenced by my own love of crochet, can u tell? lol
anyway a magician can keep track of their web of stitch relationships by keeping personal knotwork charts. below is an example of one for abundance
to create a spell, the magician would pull threads from any stitch to combine into one
also a cluster is just a stitch with more than four threads attached. semantics lol
so here's three examples of different spells a magician could make with the above chart:
after the material is created, a spell must be fastened off and blocked.
"fastening off" means ending work on the material construction, while "blocking" a spell effectively triggers its activation and is the final step of the knot work process.
every magician has a specific tension at which they work at, so spell recipes/charts have a "gauge" that must be adhered to for proper replication of effects
something else i want to mention is that knotwork can be "darned" if it breaks, wears through, or develops a hole, and be fixed even by someone who didn't create the initial knot.
knotwork can be utilized by anyone who can manage to pull a thread. while it is often taught, there are several instances of folk knotwork techniques popping up :-)
let me know if u have any questions or want to know more!!!!!
