Blue and White Corsages by Posies & Pearls

Getting ready for my Golden Girls Flamingo Fling mom’s party.  I purchased flamingo buttons and wanted to make each guest something.  Originally I was thinking a pin or pendant, but finally settled on corsages.  My thought was that corsages fit the Golden Girls theme.  I found gold elastic at Hobby Lobby for 3.49.  I think the buttons were from Walmart and were about 2.99 per package.  I had one in my stash and purchased a second one to have enough for the guests.  The roses were also on sale at Hobby Lobby and rang up 1.49.  I bought the roll of gold “leather” on a whim not sure what I was going to do with it, but thought it may be good for my upcoming Greek and Roman Goddess party.  It was on clearance  at Hobby Lobby for 1.49.  I was going to use doilies and make pleated background for the flowers, but saw the gold sitting on my craft table and gave it a shot.  I love the final product and the gold ties in the Golden Girls and Flamingo aspect of the party.  I cut the gold out in circles and added slits to slide elastic through.  I used a lighter to stop any fraying of the elastic threads, then sewed the ends together to make a circle.  I removed a set of leaves from the stems for each rose and glued the rose directly onto the leaves.  I hot glued the flamingoes onto the roses then the roses onto the gold circles.  If I was doing this again I would change the position of the slits in the gold circles to make the gold back ground either more centered or more towards the top of the rose/flamingo set.   Added up I spent about 12.45 on this project of 8 corsages, however I still have some elastic, flamingoes, and most of the gold leather left for future projects.
