you've mentioned a couple times that arl eamon is terrible, and if you're ever feeling up to it, I was wondering if you could explain? I got pretty annoyed with him about the anora vs alistair thing but if there's anything else it completely flew past me
It’s kind of hard to pick up on - at least, it was for me - unless you’ve played through Origins more than once, and I still think I missed some things, aaaaand some of it is admittedly meta that’s up to interpretation.
Alistair mentions that he had to sleep in the barn, growing up, and there’s a bit of banter when you go into Eamon’s estate in Denerim where he mentions that, when he’d visit the estate with Eamon, he had to sleep with the dogs. Alistair was, in ways like that, treated as something less than a servant.
And yet, when the throne is up for contesting, he’s all for shoving Alistair onto it. Alistair doesn’t want to - but he acts like he doesn’t really have any choice, either. Eamon steamrolls him pretty thoroughly about everything in a way that suggests he’d been planning this.
Which, if you have Return to Ostegar and have found all the letters, he may well have been. He was putting a lot of pressure on Cailan to drop Anora and marry Celene.
And… that is all I can remember with any accuracy right now, I’m afraid. I know there’s other people who could fill in more… @mazarinedrake? @thingsareswinging?

If you're still looking for fic recs, I remember really liking "Jolie" (Fenris dances) by taranoire and REALLY REALLY liking "Consertae" (the life of Fenris's mother) by the same. If you like Bull/Dorian "keep moving in opposite directions" by radiophile is also a good one (about them meeting in Tevinter prior to Inquisition).

I have a feeling I WOULD like Bull/Dorian but banter problems meant that it never triggered on my first playthrough. Grumblegrumble. Hopefully it will on one of my in-progress ones. So I’ll keep that fic in mind, for sure.
a.) you are the only person I follow who gets into huge dragon age discussions so thank you for supplying my dash, b.) what do you think of the idea that Merrill should have been the Reoccurring Eluvian Expert in Inquisition instead of Morrigan? I've seen a couple posts about it and I'm conflicted. Merrill being there instead would have been amazing and made more sense and MERRILL DRINKING FROM THE WELL, but also Morrigan's return and interactions with Flemeth were heartbreaking and important...

b. I like the idea in theory but in practice I can see why they didn’t go with it - for one thing, Merrill can be dead in some worldstates, and/or her eluvian broken. They’ve retconned other deaths, but it’s like… unlike Leliana, who even in DAO clearly had something important going on with her, Merrill was important but not in an overarching world sort of way. They probably wanted to avoid having too many retcons, as well.
Also, Morrigan has that unexpected personal tie to the events in Inquisition that is awfully important. Merrill knows a lot on her own, but Morrigan has resources and ties that Merrill doesn’t have… and was set up to have them by Flemeth.
Still, I think for worldstates where she’s alive, she should have had some impact on the events, at least in war table missions.
