The shower hisses, spraying water down on his chest, while Cor just stared at the drain at his feet. Covered in sweat, that horrible acrid taste of puke couldn’t seem to wash out of his mouth no matter how hard he brushed his teeth. His heart is still throbbing in his chest but he’s assured Prompto he’s fine. He hadn’t even been asleep for very long, and the damned nightmares came to rear their ugly head.
“Why are you still here?”
Prompto’s surprised to hear the voice come out of the shower. After nightmares, Cor can be silent for a long time, sometimes, he doesn’t even talk, so muted by whatever he saw. He collects himself, and responds. “I can go if you like.” Prompto remarked. “If you want to get out and change.” Cor was still uncomfortable with his body, so Prompto always afforded him the option of privacy to change his clothes.
“That’s not what I meant...”
A lump in Prompto’s throat. “What did you mean?”
Cor is silent. Spray hits the top of his head. The steam is trailing around them, the water is so hot it’s making him feel dizzy. Cor stands there. “It’s so much... to deal with. I think... moving in, was hard on you, even if you didn’t like your old place... and I understand... not wanting to deal with it.” Cor was so quiet, Prompto strained to hear him over the shower. “So... why are you still here?”
It’s not exactly what Cor wanted to hear, but it’s believable. It’s the truth.
“I don’t know what you went through, but it hurt you really badly.” Prompto replied, voice quiet, so he leans closer to the curtain. “And I don’t want you to think... that that’s something you have to deal with alone. Not anymore.” He traces the pattern on the shower curtain with his finger. “You know... I’m here for you right?”
“What?” Prompto asked, barely able to hear Cor whispering.
“Thank you. I need to change now.”
Prompto understands. He steps out, and lets Cor get dressed. He hears shuffling, and some choking ruined noise, a sob, the sound of sniffing, shuddering. Cor steps out with red eyes and a pink face and acts like nothing has happened. Prompto allows it. Cor lays down beside him, and tries to sleep. It’s a long process, shifting, sighing, adjusting his clothes, and Cor has to take some medicine, but he starts to drift off. In a deep sleep, Prompto cups his face, and kisses his forehead, and Cor’s features lighten just a bit. And that’s all he needs.
