As I am added to the ranks of the temporarily unemployed
I have a few things I’d like to say...
First, THANK YOU!! All you folks who still have to work in all of this. I worked for 28 years in essential businesses, that aside from being on fire, or the first hour after being robbed, would never close. I never encountered this kind of thing that lasted more than a day or 2, my worst was the Blizzard of 98 that dumped over 3 ft of snow and 10 ft drifts, and even though no one darkened our lobby for 13 hours, my friend and I were both stranded there, working for 44 hours.
Our boss told us to write off anything we wanted to eat or drink and we could take turns sleeping if need be. We were finally released at 10am on the 3rd morning by the GM and Asst Mgr, who, though grateful we stayed all that time, was kinda pissed neither of us intended on coming back for our 5pm shift that day LOL.
Now I work for a non-essential company and we had to close, so even though Im welcoming the indefinite vacation, I am deeply empathetic and appreciative of all of you that have to keep going. 💖
Second, THANK YOU!! To my employer and every employer out there who are paying employees sick time even if they haven't earned it. I know this is hurting your business, but I am so thankful you’re concerned about the well-being of your employees. You didn’t have to keep us, you could have laid us al off and hired temps till you were made to close, or things got better on their own, so I have a lot more added respect for you 💝
Third, to the Energy companies, Cable, Rent and Finance companies that are cooperating with your clients and forgiving them for paying bills late, THANK YOU!! Its a stressful time for everyone, I appreciate any effort to alleviate some of it 💛
Fourth, to the US Govt THANK YOU!!! Both parties, all sides, thank you so much for actually working together, and actually making citizens top priority. The plans to get through this, sound fantastic, so of course, I’m skeptical that it will actually work, but I am glad there IS a plan and y’all are agreeing pretty fast with very low drama. I do indeed hope the plans pan out and we can look back in a few months or a year and just see that everyone worked together and we came out the other side with minimal problems. If something doesn't work out right and bites us in the collective ass, we can learn never to do whatever it was again.
Fifth, to everyone hoarding toilet paper and hand sanitizer, buying far more than you need of anything, people posting false information to scare and mislead people, those who have already begun scamming people in email claiming to be from the UI office and you need them to fill more forms or they may be denied their claim, and anyone else using this time to be a dick, GO FUCK A CACTUS YOU WORTHLESS DOG TURD!!
Thank you for attending my TED Talk... carry on
