On Owenâs first day of Kindergarten could we have ever predicted that it would end this way? Six months in the classroom, three months at home. Teacher/student interactions moved to Zoom. No more birthday parties. The incredible challenges of working a full time job while trying to support Owenâs learning. The immense appreciation that all parents felt for how easy teachers made this look whenever we previously visited the classroom (and how difficult it is in actuality). I thank Mrs. Conte for her supportive emails every time Owen sent her a math problem or a story heâd written. I thank fellow parents who helped alleviate my guilt. I thank my husband for becoming a gym & math games teacher for a student body of one. I thank Kara for launching a successful âsister schoolâ via FaceTime. I thank my parents and in-laws for scheduling countless story times while I had meetings and couldnât be there for Owen. I thank my colleagues for enduring daily interruptions from a 6 year old. But mostly I thank Owen: for being an inquisitive, sweet, resilient boy who loves reading, yoga, & iPad games (not in that order). We had tense, frustrating moments but we got through it with the support of everyone I named and more. I will NEVER forget Owenâs Kindergarten year: remembered for having one foot in the old way of life, and one in the new. #kindergarten #coronaparenting #movingup #thefloss (at New Rochelle, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBasGHtJQM2/?igshid=gpzf2oipeepd
