Schools Closing
Hey everyone!! I come bearing sad news, news you all have already heard, but Iâm here to talk about it. As you all must know, schools are closed for the rest of the school year. This saddens many students greatly. There are so many opportunities, events, sporting seasons, and many memorable moments that have been stolen from numerous students. As a freshman, I am slightly disappointed that I was unable to finish my first one full year at Marist. I loved going to school, it was a great environment and a fun place to be. I especially miss my friends and teachers. Online classes arenât nearly the same as face-to-face classes. Before spring break, I had recently made the softball team at Marist. We had about two weeks of practice and uniform fittings before we went on break. I was so excited for the season, since it was my first one here at Marist.
The graduating seniors take the biggest loss from the schools closing. Senior year is the big year, the last one you get out of high school. Around this time of year, many seniors have prom, a very memorable event from your high school experience. Spring sports have been cancelled, denying many athletes their âsenior seasonâ. And saddest of all, graduation. Graduation from high school is a big closing chapter in a personâs life. It sends them off to the next path in life, college, jobs, whatever it may be. These poor students wonât walk the halls of their schools, say âhi!â to a friend in the hall, see their favorite teachers one last time.
On March 13th, the Friday before spring break, Marist gave out its official information regarding a two week plan of e-Learning. We were expected to be back by March 31, I believe. After we didnât go back the 31st, the next expected date was April 20th. I remember hearing this news and feeling devastated. Itâs an unfortunate situation we are all in, but if these precautionary measures keep us all safe and healthy the sacrifices are worth it. Again, everyone stay safe, happy, and healthy!
