Your summary of the Sherlock episode really says it all. It was, overall, nasty and a serious disappointment as well as just a complete farce. It felt nothing like the rest of the show? I really cannot comprehend that it's come to this tbh
ahhhh I know :((((( I’ll be honest, I haven’t super enjoyed the show for a little while now. there have been too many things - John telling Sherlock that romance would “complete” him wasn’t that nice to hear as someone on the ace/aro spectrum (and it’s even less nice now that we know it wasn’t a setup for any kind of canonical recognition of John/Sherlock in the next episode), and of course Mary dying was utterly crappy but completely predictable given Moffat’s track record.
but this episode was some next-level stuff. I usually at least have fun watching the cases unfold, I enjoy seeing the little flashes of nice dialogue, I like the interactions between John and Sherlock (unsatisfying though they always ultimately are). but this was messed up in a way that wasn’t fun to watch. it was just plain horrible. the girl trapped on the plane… giving that disturbing story thread no true resolution didn’t feel like a gasp-worthy plot twist so much as yet another cop out.
