The recipient had previously undergone three unsuccessful transplants from human donors
by Hannah Sugars
Doctors at Kaplan Medical Center in Israel have successfully performed the first EndoArt artificial cornea transplant, providing a new hope for patients suffering from severe eye conditions.
Developed by Israeli medical device company EyeYon Medical, the EndoArt implant replaces the function of the cornea’s endothelium without the need for biological tissue donation.
The endothelium acts as a pump and barrier, maintaining the cornea in a slightly dehydrated state – which is essential for it to remain transparent. If the corneal endothelium is damaged, the delicate, non-regenerating layer of cells lining the back of the cornea can no longer perform their essential function, potentially leading to sight loss.
The device represents a global breakthrough in ophthalmology, providing a synthetic and scalable alternative for patients who cannot undergo traditional corneal transplantation.
The groundbreaking procedure was first carried out on a patient with advanced corneal edema, where three previous transplants using human donor corneas had failed.

Blinding Brightness
As we continue to progress with automobiles and technology, it seems that there is a rapidly progressing problem, excessively bright LED headlights. I was driving home from choir practice last night, and granted I was already really tired and a little annoyed, but nevertheless, a giant truck was headed my way in the opposite lane and I had to all but pull my car over because their lights were so painfully bright I couldn’t even see the road. Light pollution is already a huge problem in our society and according to the Natural History Museum’s article Increasing Light Pollution is Drowning out the Stars, this pollution will increase by a factor of four over an 18 year period. This article goes on to state that the blue tint to LED headlights are making it more difficult for satellites to accurately calculate how much light pollution there really is. All in all, the blindingly bright LED headlights need to go, they’re annoying and serve no real purpose because the old halogen headlights are just as effective without frying the corneas of other drivers.
Linked below is the article I pulled information from as well as a video on the pros and cons of LED headlights ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Nights are becoming around 10% lighter each year, which has implications for the health of both humans and wildlife.
Needles in Eyes
Sticking needles in your eyes might not be as bad as it seems. Any loss or damage to the inner layer of the cornea – the clear surface of the eye – can be permanent and lead to progressive sight loss. Corneal transplantation is the only available solution, and is invasive and limited, so researchers have developed a spiky new approach to restoring lost or damaged cells. They created a sheet of nanoneedles (green in the human cornea sample pictured) that can embed within the inner layer of cornea cells (red and blue), nestling down to the perfect depth. These needles can then directly deliver small strands of genetic material that interfere with a particular gene involved in keeping growth in check. With that silenced, cell growth increased. The nanoneedles can be integrated in contact lenses for long term drug delivery, restoring sight without sore eyes.

You probably can imagine the elation in Israel now that the 20 living Gaza hostages have finally come Home. Although the war with Hamas terrorists is not yet over, many Israeli soldiers are also able to return Home to their families. Reservists are back Home, re-focusing on their goals to build a better world for everyone.
Many more Israeli medical innovations are enabling patients to return Home from hospital. A new Israeli-developed processor promises to restore Intel's dominance in the Home computing industry. Israel has established a national Home for Artificial Intelligence development. Israel is the original Home of water technology and it has just made another desalination breakthrough.
An Israeli has brought Home yet another Nobel Prize; El Al's "Get you Home" policy has boosted its global ratings; and two US Ambassadors certainly hit a "home run" with their rendition of "Sweet Home Jerusalem"
One father, unable to bring home his fallen son, has been motivated to help launch 450 Israeli startups, with the target of one startup for every Israeli that can no longer come Home. And it was US President Donald Trump in the Knesset - the Home of Israeli democracy - who knew whom really to give thanks to for bringing the hostages back Home.
So perhaps the message to bring home to many of the readers of this newsletter is "Come Home!"
The photo (TY Sharon) is of Jerusalem's Chords Bridge, illuminated with the flags of Israel and the USA. We hope for the return Home of all the deceased hostages and that all those released from Gaza will be able to fully recover, now that they are back Home with their families and friends.
