8: A song about drugs or alcohol
"Drunk" by Tweet. One of the best in my opinion. Listening to it sober is bad enough, but don’t let me actually BE drunk when I’m listening to it…
29: A song that you remember from your childhood
"How Do The Fools Survive" by The Doobie Brothers. So much of my childhood is wrapped in that song, and that whole album. Every summer when my family went on vacation, that cassette (google it, kids) would play in the van on repeat as we drove across the country every which-a-way. Dad "singing" along, Mom sleeping so she could take over when it was her turn to drive, me reading and watching the country zoom by thinking I had the weight of the world on my young, ignorant shoulders, and my younger siblings being basic and irrelevant.
This was before we had iPads and smartphones. You had to read a BOOK to pass the time! Or color! Or interact with your siblings! You young people don’t know how good you have it!
30: A song that reminds you of yourself
Hell, pretty much all of them…? This is really hard because I have so many… I guess in this moment I’ll say “Diamonds” by Herb Alpert featuring Empress Janet Damita Jo Jackson. That song speaks to my Capricorn spirit. It has picked me up when I’m down on love AND life, and always reminds me that whatever my future holds, I’m going to be fine. It also holds a deeper meaning for me, which I’d put into a think piece if I thought anyone gave a shit.
