rip to the guy who posted his very expensive yixing teapot to r/tea, only for the comments to be not compliments on his taste as he expected, but instead GREAT GOOGLY MOOGLY and I SHOULD CALL HER. he then crossposted it to r/gongfutea, which is ordinarily more dignified and self-serious, but was it? was it?? of course not, because this is reddit, and this was the teapot
On this day, 6 August 1945, the US dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, slaughtering tens of thousands of civilians, despite many military and government officials believing it was unnecessary. Numerous senior US military officers confirmed that the bombing was not needed to defeat Japan, and indeed that Japan was attempting to surrender. General Dwight D. Eisenhower explained: "Japan was at the moment seeking some way to surrender with minimum loss of 'face'. It wasn't necessary to hit them with that awful thing." Admiral William D. Leahy, former chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, stated "that the use of this barbarous weapon at Hiroshima and Nagasaki was of no material assistance in our war against Japan. The Japanese were already defeated and ready to surrender. My own feeling was that in being the first to use it, we had adopted an ethical standard common to the barbarians of the Dark Ages. I was taught not to make war in that fashion, and wars cannot be won by destroying women and children." And the US Strategic Bombing Survey determined that "Japan would have surrendered even if the atomic bombs had not been dropped, even if Russia had not entered the war, and even if no invasion had been planned or contemplated." Elements within the Japanese government had been attempting to arrange a surrender, while maintaining the institution of the emperor, which possessed important religious significance. The US, meanwhile, was insisting on an unconditional surrender, but even though this was the only supposed barrier to peace, the US allowed Japan to maintain the emperor after the surrender anyway. Faced with criticism of the mass-killing of civilians, some US officials concocted a narrative that the bombs were used to avoid a land invasion of Japan, which would have cost more lives. However, this story was only fabricated in 1947, after the war had already ended. More likely was that the US wanted to send a strong message to Russia before the cold war began. We used them because we had them. That's it. We knew that if we finised them before the end of the war that we would use them regardless of any necessity. We had two bombs with different constructions, so we dropped two. If we would have had five we would have dropped five. We wanted a live test; see what they'd really do when used in anger. The US has always just been a murder machine with a good pr team. It's collapse will be a net benefit to the world.

Let's just think a second about it and answer the questions I posited.
Israel was founded as a state for a specific ethnicity, the Jews.
It has never officially annexed Gaza and West Bank specifically because doing so would increase the Palestinian population of Israel. This is also why Israelis, even Liberal ones, find the idea of a one state solution abhorrent, because they'll be a minority.
The "Nation State Bill" declares Israel to be a nation for the Jewish people. Imagine if a country with a significant minority like the US or Australia declared that the nation was meant for White Anglo-Saxon Protestants. Would this be racist?
Palestinians can not get Israeli citizenship even if they can provide proof of having lived in Israel in living memory. People point out countries like Polands "citizenship by decent" law but Poland doesn't only do so for ethnic Poles. A descendant of Jewish or German Polish citizens has the same rights as a descendant of Polish citizens.
On the other hand, Jews with 0 known ancestry in Israel (including converts who have very little ties to the "imagined Jewish people") have the right to move to Israel.
"Arab Israelis" can not pass their citizenship onto their spouse or children if their spouse is from Gaza/West Bank. This has led to Palestinians born in Israel to an Israeli parent and with an Israeli spouse and children being deported. If they were Jewish that would not occur. These are legal discriminations based solely on whether you are Jewish or not.
A Palestinian born in West Bank does not have the right to Israeli citizenship. A Jewish settler in West Bank does have those rights. They live in the same territory, under the same government but the sole difference in their rights is their ethnicity.
This is not even really discussing the occupation of West Bank and the de facto occupation of Gaza but these facts are already far more radical than any other supremacist state on earth. Not Sri Lanka (which gave Indian Tamils citizenship in 2004), not Myanmar, not India, Malaysia or Bhutan. Definitionally, not the pseudo-ethnostates of Botswana, Lesotho and Eswatini.
In fact, they're far more radical than groups like the AfD, Reform or National Rally, none of which have suggested limiting citizenship to one specific ethnicity.
sigh.
@prismatic-bell hey look, another bad faith take at the state of Israel, you want a go at this?
Sigh.
@khoesib do you want to just stop fucking lying?
1) about 25% of Israeli citizens are not Jewish. A huge chunk of that group is Arab, with smaller minorities like the Druze who are quite literally killed for existing in other Middle Eastern countries.
2) being "a state for the Jewish people" means it is a state that accounts for the needs of an indigenous group that was forced into diaspora 2000 years ago and has never found safety since. It does not say "for only the Jewish people." One might consider, however, that Palestinian leadership has stated that "from water to water, Palestine will be Arab" when asked about the presence of Jews in the region.
3) it's never officially annexed the West Bank or Gaza because it's at least mostly trying to follow the intentions set out in the partition plan of 1947, you fucking asparagus spear. You may notice that in 1947, Jordan annexed the West Bank and Egypt annexed Gaza. When Israel retook both in the Six Days War, they said "we will defend ourselves if you push us. Do you get the picture? Here's your land back" and Egypt and Jordan said "FUCK NO." That's how the existence of Palestine even happened. Israel could have just taken the land. It didn't. It's even come to the table multiple times and said "here's a proposal for a two-state solution" and it's been Palestine, every time, that's said no. Hell, Yasser Arafat actually led Israel down the garden path all the way to "yes, we'll sign, let's set it for this date" and then just didn't show up. It has nothing to do with being a minority. Although I have to say, the fact that Palestinians keep killing Jews for existing is definitely not helping their case.
4) Palestinians can in fact become Israeli citizens. Here's an article about some specific history of Palestinians rejecting Israeli citizenship. Now if you're not from Jerusalem the process is a lengthy pain in the ass. But that's not exclusive to either Israel or Palestinians. Countries that allow noncitizens to become citizens--unlike, for example, Qatar, where all four of your grandparents had to be citizens in order for you to become a citizen--tend to want to be sure you're serious and also that you're not a secret axe murderer or spy.
5) we all have ancestry in Israel, you fucking walnut. There are even genetic studies about this. As for converts, allow me to remind you that Judaism is an ETHNORELIGION. Converts are basically marrying into a family.
I can't even handle more of this Gish gallop right now. "More radical than any other supremacist country on earth" first of all it's not a supremacist country SECOND OF ALL QATAR, WHICH FUNDS THE SHITTY AL-JAZEERA ARTICLES YOU GET THIS SHIT FROM, IS RIGHT THERE.
Just say you hate Jews and go. This is taking too long. Fuckhead.
OP doesn't believe in the Uyghur genocide. Their opinions may be safely discarded.
^ Believes in Uyghur genocide (0 actual evidence, 0 countries that actually believe this, 7 sources from Adrian Zenz) but does not believe in genocide in Gaza nor Israel being an oppressive ethnostate.
Israel has literally been trying to silence and/or get rid of its Arab population for decades. These people are the lowest tier clowns.
If you hate Israel and then act like Canada and the USA are somehow good, salvageable, or in any way morally better than Israel I think you’re just as bad as the Zionists btw.
“Israel bought out the USA” as if the USA is somehow an innocent victim of Israeli influence, like it would somehow be a good settler-colony if the evil Israeli settler colony didn’t exist. lol. lmao even. The USA and Israel are just two settler-colonial countries built on imperialism and hatred, they love working together towards the same interests, actually.
Same for Canada, which committed a genocide against its indigenous peoples and still hasn’t given back most of the land that was illegally taken from them in clear violation of every “treaty” they ever made, treaties which they *continue to violate to this day* btw. They claim truth and reconciliation and hide behind their land acknowledgments, but really the only thing separating Israel from Canada is a time difference and normalization.
So yeah, if you’re a Canadian or USAmerican who thinks that you’re settler-colony is somehow better or more legitimate than Israel, I distrust you heavily and would suggest doing some more research into your country’s founding and continued existence through marginalized and indigenous perspectives, cause you aren’t so hot.

Malaysia is seeking to finalize a deal with the Myanmar junta to send back 5,000 Rohingya refugees. If this agreement is finalized, it would be a disaster. The situation would be comparable to sending Palestinian refugees back to Occupied Palestine...that is the closest comparison I can make.
KUALA LUMPUR: Asean Parliamentarians for Human Rights (APHR) co-chair Charles Santiago has questioned the plan to repatriate 5,000 Rohingya
KUALA LUMPUR: Asean Parliamentarians for Human Rights (APHR) co-chair Charles Santiago has questioned the plan to repatriate 5,000 Rohingya refugees to Myanmar. He said Myanmar remains mired in a violent armed conflict, with the same military junta responsible for the original exodus still in power. "Malaysia cannot, in good conscience, celebrate the return of 5,000 Rohingya to Myanmar without first answering one fundamental question: return them to what?" he said in a statement today. The concern follows Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's announcement on Wednesday that Myanmar has agreed to take back 5,000 Rohingya currently in Malaysia, as part of a wider regional repatriation effort involving 300,000 refugees in Bangladesh. He warned that without credible guarantees of safety, dignity, and citizenship, the move would be a "moral failure" rather than a diplomatic achievement. He further cautioned that facilitating returns without transparent safeguards risks abandoning the humanitarian principles Malaysia has championed for decades. Santiago also called on the government to see beyond the logistical challenges of hosting displaced persons. On Monday, hundreds of Rohingya refugees gathered outside the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) office in Jalan Bukit Petaling after allegedly being forced to leave their settlement in Penang. All 113 Rohingya refugees were later relocated after undergoing overnight police screening and identity verification. A total of 66 were relocated to Kuala Lumpur, 29 to Selangor and 18 to Penang.
