I finally finished my test shoes. I made these out of things I had around the house: some fantastically bad leather (possibly reconstituted) that I couldn't bear to have skin-side out, cotton canvas lining, wool felt insoles, stretch denim and wood glue for the heel counters and toe puffs, and saddle leather sole and stacked heel.
The only thing I didn't have and couldn't figure out how to make with household items were the shanks. But the shoes are really comfortable without them? Like, surprisingly comfortable.
The heels are starting to bulge out at the sides, though.
So wonderful to catch up with my friend @nicholastemplemanltd , one of the very best English custom shoemakers, again, and see samples that show craft cordwainery continues in his hands.
