Córcira (la moderna Corfú, también llamada Kerkyra), situada en el mar Jónico, es una de las islas griegas más norteñas y era una polis o ciudad-Estado importante en los periodos arcaico y clásico. Con una flota naval importante y el control del acceso al Adriático, hubo luchas frecuentes por la isla entre las ciudades-Estado más grandes como Corinto y Atenas en el periodo clásico y fue una base naval romana en el siglo I a.C.

Corcyre
Corcyre (aujourd'hui Corfou et également connue sous le nom de Kerkyra), située dans la mer Ionienne, est l'une des îles grecques les plus septentrionales et fut une importante polis ou cité-État aux époques archaïque et classique. Possédant une flotte importante et contrôlant l'accès à l'Adriatique, l'île fut souvent disputée par des cités-États plus importantes telles que Corinthe et Athènes à l'époque classique et était une base navale romaine au 1er siècle avant notre ère.
