Social media and the internet have made the American effect upon Australians more deadly. Sovereign Citizens and Christian far right terrorists have murdered in cold blood our police men and women. They have been inspired, if that is the right word, by far-right influencers in the United States. An America, where guns may not grow on trees, but they are easily obtainable, just the same. It is estimated that there are some 600 million guns knocking about in the USA. Extreme political views are one thing, but armed extremists are a much more dangerous thing entirely.

USA Exporting Violent Extremism Downunder

There have always been individuals with radical political views. Likewise, there have long been nutjobs and crazies too. The fundamental difference is when these people are armed with automatic weapons capable of massacring lots of human beings. The whole online thing has, also, facilitated these birds of a feather virtually flocking together. A problem shared and all that. Extreme thoughts made more real via the affirmation of fellow travellers. And yes, the vast majority of killers are young men. You see, generally speaking, men are shit at dealing with stuff and want to lash out to release their demons. They want to make their problem our problem via violence.

Online Toxic Masculinity

Toxic masculinity, I posit, is another American export, in the main. Transported online, again, through influencers on social media. Teenage boys, in all their bursting insecurity, make ideal targets for this kind of poisonous stuff. Big strong muscles, they make out, make a man. Treating women badly is a sign of superiority, in their book. Oh yeah, they don’t read books, but they do read stuff online. Lots of pictures help too. What I find is this shit is driven by losers who want to blame the world for their own failings. Bestowing victimhood status upon young guys and old, who maybe didn’t make a go of the whole relationship thing. ‘It was all their fault! A female conspiracy!” Americans are real big on the conspiracy thing. This is just a fancy word for blaming a demographic or a bunch of folk. If you are a culture into blaming others – conspiracies are necessary.

The American Effect

The chutzpah of the Yank has dialled up the American effect upon Australians. First, it was Hollywood and all their movies seen here and abroad. Next, TV and all the American culture promoted in their sitcoms and celebrity exported far and wide. These days it is via their Silicon Valley exports to the world. American multinational corporations like Google (Alphabet), Microsoft, Apple, Meta, Amazon, and the rest who control the digital realm globally. These companies, who don’t pay their fair share of tax anywhere they operate. Oh yeah, Americans like to brag about not paying tax. Australian business likes to copy the Americans, they import their CEOs, and the locals get their MBAs from an American university. Our most poisonous homegrown mogul even became a US citizen.

This is how billion dollar profits are shifted to tax free territories like Bermuda, so as to minimise the tax payable in Australia. Thus, the wealthiest companies doing business in this nation pay a tiny percentage on the real revenue they generate here by creative accounting. In actual fact advertising in the digital sphere does not involve costly things like printing presses, ink and paper, so these payments for digital services are invented and bear no relation to anything real beyond IP. Australians are being ripped off by these multinationals and our governments do diddly squat about it.”

Chat Rooms For Crazies

Now, our nutjobs chat online with more extreme crazies in America. The Yanks, or should I say Confederates, promulgate their pro-gun Sovereign Citizen views far and wide. This sort of stuff plays well with the Anglo-settler mentality, where racism and white supremacy makes merry in the bush and outer suburbs somewhere. Blame it on ‘the other’ be he or she an immigrant, an Indigenous person or LGBTQI community member. The blame game is number one on the charts for these folk. It’s a conspiracy of feminist lesbians against red blooded Aussies!!!

Conclusions?

OK, what then, are we going to do about it? Are we going to apathetically sit back and watch the seagulls eat another chip? Are we going to count our dead police men and women? What are we going to do about the guns in the hands of these extremists in the bush? Does any leader downunder have the resolve to tackle this? Or are they too busy playing politics? Trump’s America is only going to get worse. The American effect upon Australians is decidedly in the negative.
