Byakuya Falling For Shy S/O:

He met them when they thought they were alone and their attention was focused solely on practicing their craft, a spark in their eyes that quietly retreated when they found themselves around too many people.

They are knowledgeable when he asks questions and tactful when they ask for clarification, never quite meeting his eyes. He wonders if they’re really the person who’s passions and care for their craft show so plainly in their work, when they can’t even confidently match his gaze. But he knows what he saw. It makes him very curious. Getting to know each other beyond formal introductions is a bit hard though, as Byakuya doesn’t want to seem obvious about his curiousity and shy s/o is very unsure why anyone wants to take interest in them.

He realizes that he’s falling for his s/o when he finds himself keeping them in mind when he arranges his schedule, when he thinks ‘ah, s/o would say so and so’ about something Rukia says, or finding his days off full of isolated hobbies a bit lonelier than usual. When they start folding into his routine, he understands his feelings with certainty. (Shy s/o is definitely not about to demand time from Byakuya, so it’s mostly led by him).

When things advance to anything relating dating, they do so awkwardly. And the definition of what they are is left unclear. It’s been a really long time since he was fearlessly rash in life, let alone in love. He’s not sad to find he’s falling in love, just more cautious than in the past. There are a lot of open ended sentences, long looks, and turn of conversations not just on the shy s/o’s end, but on his. His just seem more aloof and purposeful.

He enjoys doing things with them that are solitary and tranquil in nature; things enjoyed by him from a life time of being nobility and enjoyed by s/o because they make them feel more relaxed. It’s within these hobbies that his s/o starts to open up and flourish with him and he finds himself returning the favor until one day, he pauses while they practice calligraphy beside each other and says ‘It would make me happy if we could always be like this’ and watches as shy s/o blushes so hard they turn purple before taking like an hour to say ‘me too’. It makes him laugh a little behind his sleeve.

The festival was in full swing by the time that you and Lestat got there. It had started at dusk, and of course, the two of you showed up fashionably late. Your hand was on his arm as you took in the sights of the exotic circus in front of you - the torches burning, the contortionists bending, the music playing, the smell of alcohol permeating the air and of course, the excited shrieks of women as men in masks approach them and ask for a dance.

Neither you nor Lestat were wearing a mask on this night. As Lestat had said, the both of you had amazingly beautiful faces with clear, marble skin - what was the point in covering perfection? More people than you had expected to noticed, and Lestat smirked as the gossip turned towards you and him, and your beauty.

You let go of Lestat to clap for one of the performers, a jester-type who cartwheeled around the two of you, bells on his clothing clanging with every movement that he did. He came to a stop after a handspring in front of you, and seemingly out of nowhere, pulled a bouquet of roses that he handed towards you with a painted on smile. You accepted it and blew him a kiss to the amusement of spectators, but Lestat put an end to the jovial fun in his own way.
