for a bit he had himself trained to be out of the house by midnight every three days just in case Malon didn't remember him, so that he didn't scare her. During the War of Eras he would reintroduce himself to everyone, the only person he trusted to remember him was Warriors because every morning without fail he woke up to being wrapped in the captains scarf so they could start getting ready without disturbing him too much. It helped that he was by his side all day everyday, plus he had accidentally made Warriors aware of this fear so in the mornings he would make it a point to say Masks name often and do things to make it known he remembered before Mask could work himself up. He started keeping a small log of things he had told people to see if they still remembered it every few days, like if he mentioned preferring night to day with Twilight he would mentioned it again every few days just to see if he still remembered him, and he accepted the leader role in the chain so easily because he assumed it would make him too important to be forgotten about. Also, for a while after returning from his various adventures, he would refuse to talk to people because he thought it had been too long, that surely they'd forgotten about him by that point. The first time he went back to the castle after years of refusing to visit, the soldiers who used to catch him and throw him out as a kid didn't know who he was, logically this was because he had grown up since the last time he'd been by, his outfit had changed and that was a point in his life where he had much longer hair than he usually kept it as a kid. But fears kinda have a habit of forgoing all logic and he freaked out so bad that when he finally got to see Lullaby it was through the infirmary rather than the courtyard as he had hoped
