Investigation into the relationship between objects and place
Following on from an essay I recently completed for contextual studies based on psychogeography/interactions within a city (closely analysing Sophie Calle, Iain Sinclair and Sarah Simblet plus Rachel Whiteread - I became obsessed with with this notion of object and place. This essence of objects and place derived from Iain Sinclairs writing room where he collected objects on his travels, and planned to utilise them and involve the talents of specialist anatomical illustrator Sarah Simblet, where he asked her to produce some visual studies from these 12 objects he selected from his study room. Some of these objects he didn't realise he had and just simply let them be absorbed into his chaotic yet calming writing room. I saw an immediate link to myself and that wherever I go I have to collect something to represent my time over there. I plan to bring these objects into the studio and place them on shelves and document them in an archival sense but also I am wanting to bring these objects into different places and see whether its aesthetics and meaning changes with every place.
