Fire, darkness and death.

The Contekar look very MEH, which is a damn shame. It’s a running theme with FW’s Night Lords that the unupgraded Legion units look great in NL colours, but the actual Legion-specific kits look kind of mediocre, with some uninspired poses (just look at their Praetors or Sevatar...).

I thought they were supposed to come with chain glaives? But their weapons shown here look more like the chainswords of the plastic Chaos Raptors than anything else:

At least one of the weird volkite weapons they get has some sort of chain-bayonette-thing attached, but it doesn’t seem to have an engine or be connected to anything the way chainswords and the attachments on chainfists are modelled.

The fins on the legs look as stupid as I thought they would, especially as the Carcharodons are pretty much confirmed to be successors of the Raven Guard. WHile the trim at the knees is nice and helps add to the model, I think some of the fleshy skin-loincloths have weird details. One of the chains on the middle pic, for example, seems to be attracted to the other leg rather than the ground, and the weird cards they have studded into their armour really doesn’t work for me.

I like the heads a lot though, and the shoulder pads look quite nice. And there isn’t anything wrong with their chainswords, it’s just that they aren’t what I’d call chainglaives: all others shown have been 2-handed weapons, and their rules reflect it.

The arrows are a bit weird; I don’t think we’ve seen them on any other 30K NL kit? I might be misremembering. I like them and think they add to the finished look, but it isn’t anything particularly Night Lords-y, you know?

Overall I’m probably getting at least 1 set from a recaster to convert to Legion Terminators, characters, a command squad or somesuch, but they’ll be converted before I’m done with them.
