Date? They were close. Well, first date close wasn’t very much was it? But he did like hearing /James/ come from the other’s mouth. It sounded like velvet and soothed him more than he imagined a voice could. “I’m sorry…” he’d hoped the name would just come out of habit and fall right off his tongue but nothing. Again. Jim, he liked that better, looked down and took his hand, bringing it closer to his lap and focused on them. This would be difficult for the young man, but hopefully they weren’t in too deep and it wouldn’t cause too much trouble.

Sherlock. He said it again to himself as he continued watching him and how he reacted to whatever he said or didn’t say. He seemed so deflated as he had to give his name. “You’re upset I don’t remember you.” Jim said, never taking his eyes off Sherlock. “But I didn’t know my own name until you said it.” his hand reached out and held Sherlock’s cheek tenderly l, thumb running over his sharp cheekbone. “I’m sorry I was late to dinner, Sherlock.” Jim offered a small, kind smile.

Sherlock resisted the urge to cry. Him wouldn’t approve of that. Or at least, whatever part of him that still lived inside this new, oblivious man. He gave him a smile, but his eyes were shining the wrong way. “Sorry for missing dinner?” he quietly stated. “I could have lost you today, Jim,” he whispered, his eyes moist, ready to spill. God e was much too emotionally committed to his professor now. And that had been his first huge mistake. To fall for him was reckless and moronic, but it was not like he could have avoid it. “I’m going to take care of you,” he promised, covering Jim’s hand with his own and kissing his palm.
