: . Melnikov house&studio / The State Museum of Konstantin and Viktor Melnikov. Designed by Konstantin Melnikov, Location: Moscow, Russia, built between 1927 - 1929. Images by Stefan Rusu . K.Melnikov considered it as a prototype, from which he proposed designs for low-cost collective housing buildings. A distinct principle of interlocking cylinders was the Melnikov proposal for a social house, in opposition to the cubic unit, with intention to solve the housing problem in the emerging Soviet Union. Retaining some historic elements of the 20th century, the house also reflects the tragic life of this solo architect in a collectivist society. . Hopefully K.Melnikov house will be preserved after careful research, investigation and comprehensive conservation plan based on technical studies of the current condition and analysis of the building’s materials via Keeping It Modern initiative. . #melnikovhouse #melnikov #constructivism #constructivismarchitecture #constructivismoruso #socialistarchitecture #socialistarchitecture_russia #publicspaces_moscow #socialistcity #sovietarchitecture #sovarch . ©insularmodernities .
