So remember, like, a year ago when I told you about the hardest scene to write? Yeah, Lydia was forced out of her gag order and proceeded to spill so much tea she had a mental breakdown on international television.

Which also sent Constantine into a major panic attack, seeing as Lydia was the strongest of them and she was freaking out, and also sent Zevon spiralling and retreating into its mind. All three had to be hospitalized and Lydia was in the hospital for nearly a year.

but could i request some hcs or just like info dump on maddy and like the dynamic of her little group? because i know the gastons and clay were raised in the frollo cult, how are they ok with being associated with a magic user/ magic born? and does maddy regularly communicate with the cult or is she completely separate? and how do constantine, lydia, and zevon interact with any others in maddy’s circle?

Tey could, but it's dangerous. Lydia still has no idea if her deal is the only thing keeping her alive, so Maverick would need to be right there and would need to do an exchange fast. She's more than ready to do that the second Lydia wants that, but then there's the matter of her receiving the same knowledge Madam Mim gave her, and Maverick has no idea how to recreate that without reading an reenacting something from The Book, which would make The Book appear in The Book which, in layman's terms, is bad and could have beyond cosmic consequences. Maverick would have to guess on how to do it to keep The Book from appearing in The Book, and that could go wrong and lead to Lydia not being able to save lives that she would have been able to save otherwise. Maxine would also need to free Constantine and Zevon, but those two seconds between the severing of their deals and the creation of deals with Maverick- because their deals are something they need- could kill Yzla or allow Constantine's mother to kill someone extremely powerful. That requires a lot of planning and Maverick is capable of it, but Constantine and Zevon also don't know her like Lydia does and wouldn't trust her with that unless they had no other choice. And Lydia isn't going to abandon them.

Beyond that, Lydia is also one of the most important people in Maverick's network because of where she is. Maddy and Madam Mim will talk about their plans in front of her freely, thinking she won't rat them out. Why would they fear her? They've owned her soul since she was five and have ordered her to say nothing to Maverick. Lydia found a loophole, that's how she operates as Mirabel. It's not that Maverick doesn't want to give that up- she would rather her people be safe and off the Isle, damn the consequences it has for her- it's that Lydia doesn't want to stop. She knows that her losing her position in the gang would lead to people losing their lives due to the loss of the information she provides. She keeps Maverick from needing to get involved directly (and thus pissing off Destiny of the Endless.)

Lydia won't go for it, so Maxine won't do it. Everything would get worse.

As for Maxine, tey're actually one of the least traumatized Mim kids. Tey used their power to destroy their soul deal the second tey found out what it entailed and ran away- doing something that major at a mere four years old left tem in a coma that Cassandra and Maverick did manage to bring tem out of, but it did still leave tem in a coma for a month. Maverick was more careful than usual when training tem, but teir power grew fast. Two years ago, tey were confident enough in teir abilities to start freeing other Mim descendants regularly (there were also a few, like Malcolm, who they freed as practice due to unique circumstances that made the soul deal weaker.) Of course, as Mim still thinks tey're dead, tey have to be careful. Mim still thinks Maverick is the one doing it.

Harriet Hook for keeping the kids on the Isle alive while King Beast is trying to exterminate them and the adults will wage a war against them for breathing.
