#conservatorship asks

So like what im imagining is the puppy mentality affecting Stan a lot more than just during full moons and it seeps into his human life, he finds himself having these episodes, getting all exciteable, his ability to read people and understand personal space depleating considerably. Or maybe the word becomes too big and confusing for him and he gets aggressive, you know like how little puppies get defensive when theyre confused.

Ford is called and is put into the conservatorship with stanley, who insists he's fine and doesnt need help, all while clinging to stanfords arm because he's finally with someone he trusts and cant bring himself to tear away, puppy logic, idk. I feel like ford would find it far easier to believe stan after a week or so, since the full moon would reveal stan's puppy form and all that strange childish behaviour starts making sense.

RIP to Stan, being turned into a baby werewolf has given him Puppy Brain 😔

Interesting if the conservatorship happens solely because Stan’s new wolf pup instincts alter his human mind too, and not because of any sort of trauma. I do think he’d be happier to be with Ford because that’s pack!! Even if he’s a little annoyed that all these people think he’s incompetent and needs a guardian.

Puppy doesn’t do well alone. Wolves are social animals, so being with Ford is much better than being on his own!

Ford is quite put off by Stan’s new strange behaviours because they are constant. Stan’s just Like That now, and will be until his wolf form grows up. But I agree that after the first full moon, Ford totally believes Stan and suddenly understands why Stan is the way he is now. Ford would be fascinated and thrilled to have a werewolf he can study, especially one that’s a puppy. He can take detailed notes about werewolf growth and development as Stan’s wolf form gets older!

Ford would have an easier time dealing with puppy brained Stan, because he at least knows why Stan is that way, and can work out how to help Stan. In regular conservatorship au, Ford has a difficult time because he doesn’t understand why Stan age regresses and what happened, or how to help Stan. A werewolf? Ford can deal with. Extreme mental health issues? Ford is floundering.

Horror :) pure horror to know what had happened. A sense of guilt that he somehow wasn’t there to stop it or help (not that he knew). A deep hatred for these unknown people who did this to his brother. A sense of revulsion at himself for having been a jerk to Stanley after all he’s been through.

A dawning sense of understanding why Stan is so messed up that he can’t even act his own age. New empathy for Stan’s health and situation. Protectiveness of his brother, who has been through so much and is now in a vulnerable state due to his mental health.

Ford’s initial response to figuring out pieces of what happened to Stan is to choke down vomit because he’s so horrified to learn what happened to Stan that it makes him nauseous. He’s furious after at the idea that people hurt Stan so badly.

I’m picturing like.

The family member of one of the cult members goes investigating. Stan has done such a good job hiding the times where he regresses from his cult protectors in case he ends back up in a tight dark space and something is wrong somethis is wrong and- and look. It doesnt change the fact that he sucked their family member into a cult, okay? But the person who snuck in knows what regressing looks like, so you either have someone who started a cult on account of trying to force stable ground to exist for them or someone vulnerable who was coerced into starting a cult, so they get the law involved because while they may be pissed off because their loved one has vanished into this cult and gone no fucking contact that doesnt change the desire to be a decent human being. It doesnt change the fact that stan needs help.

I feel like it would be a lot harder and take much more time for ford to stop thinking stan is trying to manipulate him with the regression, partly because he ran a cult and partly because he has the same sort of patter going on as his default because if you manipulate people well enough then they wont leave and youll be safe which the disbelief would not help matters for stan in the slightest. And honestly even after ford actually believes stan isnt faking it things would still be rough because how do you help someone who a) doesnt trust you and b) tries to control everything and everyone because he just needs to be safe and thats how you make sure youre safe

Oh yeah it would definitely take Ford longer to believe Stan isn’t faking all of it. Especially with the cult thing. Ford would be suspicious that Stan is pretending to be that mentally ill in order to get out of being charged for his criminal record and the cult situation.

I could also see the conservatorship being worse for Stan because of his control issues. If he feels the need to control everyone and everything, then having his autonomy legally stripped away and given to someone else would probably be horrible for him. Stan is now supposed to be under Ford’s (control) guardianship, which grates on him (makes him panic).

So cult Stan has a hard time trusting Ford and conservator Ford has a hard time trusting Stan. Not a fun situation 😔 therapy sessions needed asap

Especially if like, not everyone in Stan’s cult was caught, so maybe some members are searching for him, trying to get their leader back. Ford has to contend with that too. When he does eventually realize Stan isn’t faking and is very mentally ill, then all he wants is to help his brother. And he’s not going to let Stan get sucked back into the cult thing.

Fiddleford comes to visit, and while little Stan is asleep ford finds himself ranting his frustrations (he does really love his brother, but MAN does he not understand, one of the reasons that your fics and au is superb)

Fiddleford, ever the helpful and kind and not unhinged and crazy person that he is, decides to help out

he tests it out on little things first, Stan thinks he’s getting worse because every time he “forgets” it somehow triggers that overwhelm and also is pushed back because Stan’s brain is , oops forgot! I probably do that on purpose cause it’s bad

so now Fiddleford has to modify the memory gun to unsupress the memories so he can delete them for real for real

I don’t think it works the way it intends

but hey! Look on the bright side! Ford now knows what’s going on and can help Stan better :)

Memory gun speed run uogh

I guess the only bright side there is that Fiddleford would still have a sound mind when creating it, given he wasn’t traumatized by any anomalies or the portal. So it would just be regular unhinged Fiddleford, who creates destruction bots recreationally.

And Ford might help in the design and ideas aspect because he just might think it’s a viable method to try and see if they can help Stan with it. Roads paved with good intentions and all that.

But the gun has side effects either way and doesn’t work how they had hoped it to and uh :) well. Stan just remembered everything his brain was forcefully suppressing and it maybe or maybe not kind of broke him and sent him into the biggest meltdown Ford has ever seen. And now Stan is catatonic and not responding to anything :)

But!! At least Ford knows the story now! And it’s horrible :) it’s a terrible, terrible story and Ford suddenly understands why Stan’s brain age regressed him to protect itself. Now that he knows maybe he can help more specifically but yikes! He may have just made things worse by forcing Stan to remember.

Whoopsy! Maybe they should try erasing his memory of it again so that he’s not in this catatonic state anymore. Go back to how it was before :)

In the first snippet he’s basically going

“You aren’t being nice enough to your stan (cultivating extreme dependence on you for his mental health and ability to function) you should fix that >:)” and in the second snippet he’s straight up doing it, and from Stan’s internal narrative it’s pretty cleae gift ford has been going at it for a while

Gift Ford sees a vulnerable, traumatized Stanley and thinks “what an excellent, manipulatable baby brother!” 😔 He adores Conservator Stan’s age regression. How cute! How sweet! A little brother who thinks he’s actually little sometimes! What if Gift Ford was able to mold him into thinking he’s little all the time? Then he’d be fully dependent on Big Brother for care :)

When it comes down to it. Gift Ford does not have self esteem issues, but he does have a big fear of abandonment—specifically by Stan, but also by the rest of the family to an extent. Gift Ford cannot stand being rejected. He hates it. It’s part of why he loves cultivating dependency in those he loves. If they’re completely dependent on him, then they can never reject him and they can never abandon him, because they need him to function.

Also Gift Ford is a huge control freak, so he likes having people fully under his thumb, so to speak.

Poor Conservator Stan just happens to be easy prey for someone like Gift Ford. Conservator Ford is trying to help Conservator Stan get better. Gift Ford is trying to make him worse 😔

Conservator Ford: you need to respect people’s boundaries.

Gift Ford: what are boundaries? There’s no boundaries when someone is mine. I set the boundaries.

Ford gets quite a lot of hints when he takes Stan to the doctor’s for a physical 👀 much evidence of abuse and torture and assault to be found. Old wounds and scars and the like.

Then the problem becomes Ford has this new evidence of something that happened to his brother, but no answers or information as to what exactly it was. How Stan got some of the scars. Because Stan doesn’t remember, and trying to get him to just makes him freak out and have a meltdown.

So Ford has the evidence of a story, or multiple stories, but not the story itself. He can only speculate on what happened, and how many times, and which one or what it was that caused Stan’s age regression issue. Or if it was a buildup of everything, of too much trauma. Ford has a lot of clues but no solid answers and it does drive him nuts. He does feel so guilty and horrified by what his mind suggests Stan has been through.

But yes, Stan does have moments where something spooks him (trauma response) but he doesn’t really understand why (can’t remember). And he does dislike certain textures of fabrics and foods and stuff, because he is also on the autism scale in this one.

I think so, yes. Not any worse than what was considered normal for the time period Stan and Ford grew up in, but now we would certainly classify it as abuse. Filbrick didn’t beat Stan harshly, but he did smack him around whenever Stan did something he thought was monumentally stupid. So it wasn’t like Filbrick was laying hands on Stan all the time, just on occasion. And Stan would get a smack or a whack over the head and shouting. Not enough to really be a beating, but certainly enough to make a child flinch and be afraid.

And Stan got punished more than Ford, since Ford was favoured and Stan was usually blamed between them.

I could see regressed Stan flinching away from Ford when he thinks he’s done wrong, tensing up like he expects to be hit and is preparing for it. Apologizing in a way that’s clearly trying to appease any anger that might be directed towards him.

And I think it would take Ford a bit to realize what Stan is doing and what it means. Ford himself isn’t a stranger to being hit by their father, though it happened to Stan more often. So when he does realize that Stan is flinching in fear and expecting to be struck, it makes Ford feel ill. He knows why Stan is reacting like that, and he’s both horrified and offended that Stan would think he would hit him like Filbrick did.

It might even cause Ford to have some self reflection on their childhood, and come to realize that the way their father treated them was not okay, regardless of whether it was “justified” punishment or not. And regardless of whether or not it was acceptable by their societal norms for their father to do so. This would cause Ford to develop some protective feelings for Stan and resentment towards Filbrick.

Ford would try to assure both adult Stan and regressed Stan that he would never hit him like that. That he won’t punish Stan like their father did just because Stan makes a mistake. It would be an awkward conversation, since Ford wouldn’t know how to properly speak about it. But Stan would appreciate the effort, even if little him might have a hard time accepting he won’t be hurt.
