@glowweek Day 3
RAIN | SNOW
Originally there was a different comic for the Rain or Snow prompt, some angsty AU stuff, but I decided to put that aside instead so I can give it better dialogue and clean it up more. THEN I started this much more light-hearted one with a much simpler drawing style, also a comic... And my sinuses started acting out too. đŹ And I'm just out of it the entire time. Practically half asleep. So I just took out the first panel and added vague background. Haha
So, yeah, just this thing for this day. đ I do plan on finishing the comic for this one of course.
Here's a quick fic I did for @jambudweek!
Reblogs are appreciated!
The dorm room was bathed in the hues of the warm summer morning. Cozy oranges crept over stacks of books, her made-up bed and obscure anime posters. Birds sang their sweet songs atop the blossoming trees outside her open window and the gentle breeze ruffled her hair.
Connie awoke with a start. No pillow in sight, just cool wood beneath her forehead. She'd fallen asleep at her desk...again. Surrounded by towering books and empty coffee mugs. She groaned. Three missed calls. The fourth had roused her from her sleep.
"HeyâŠ" She said groggily, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes.
"Good morning Connie!" Steven chirped. How he could be so cheerful this early in the morning was beyond her.
"Morning StevenâŠ"
He laughed.
"You sound dead. Pulled another all nighter?"
"MmmâŠ" She replied. "Assignment due."
"I won't keep you then. Juuuust checking we were still on for tonight."
Her eyes snapped wide open with panic. She sat bolt upright in her chair at whiplash speed.
Crap! She'd forgotten all about that! Friday night was their weekly meet-up!
"L-look StevenâŠ" She stuttered, attempting to hide her panic. "...I've got a lot of stuff due soon. As well as the next DnD session to plan."
"C'mon ConnieâŠ" He teased. She knew damn well he was making those irresistible puppy-dog eyes over the phone. "... I'll bring the new DogcopterâŠ"
She let out a snort of laughter.
"How old are we Steven?"
"Old enough to appreciate how cute Drew and Dogcopter are together!"
It was probably against her better judgement, after all it wasn't like she wasn't busy. But she couldn't let him down...maybe she needed a break too.
"Fiiine." She sighed, dramatically throwing her head back. "You can come over tonight...just because I know you love weddings."
She immediately regretted saying that.Â
He fell silent.
Memories of his proposal came flooding back to her. The shock and guilt she felt, the smile on his face falling and the tears pricking his eyes.
They hadn't spoken about it since that day, neither of them had wanted to bring it up following Steven's corruption. But it was still there...hanging above them with unspoken tension.
They'd have to talk about it one day...but not today.
After what felt like ages...he replied. Forcing a chipper mood which clearly wasn't there.
"Great!" He said, in a voice that seemed too happy; even for him. "I'll see you at 6 then."
"Yeah...see you then."
6:30 saw a sweaty and breathless Steven burst through the door, tightly clinging onto a small paper bag.Â
"Connie?" He called out, placing the bag and the keys on the kitchen counter. "Sorry I'm late! The jam lady at the Artisan market had dropped her house keys. I spent an hour helping her look, then she found them in her pocket!"
He laughed.
No response.
"Cooonnie? He called again in a singsongy voice.
He peeked around the corner, searching her small living room.Â
"Oh ConnieâŠ"
His gaze fell upon Connie lounging on the sofa. Asleep. Snoring. LOUDLY. Laptop balanced precariously on her lap. He chuckled quietly to himself, guessing the several empty coffee mugs surrounding her hadn't been enough to keep her awake.
With a grin, he hoisted her into his arms. Super strength had its perks. Being able to lift his sleeping girlfriend as if she was weightless was one of them.
Rousing from her slumber in the wrong place for the second time that day, Connie dragged her head from her pillow.Â
"...How did I get hereâŠ" She mumbled to herself, positive she had not fallen asleep in bed.
She fumbled for her phone in the pocket of her hoodie, taking note of the time.
7:30
Crap!!
Steven!!
She launched herself out of bed, unkempt hair tumbling about her face and head heavy from her half-asleep state.
She threw open her door.Â
Steven could only stare in confusion as his feral, weary-eyed girlfriend stood hunched over in the doorway.
"...Um...hi Connie." He smiled sheepishly, offering her a box. "IâŠuh...ordered a pizza."
Deep crimson crept up on her cheeks. She stood upright, brushed her hair behind her ears and folded her arms.
"Hi StevenâŠ" She swallowed. "Did you...uh-"
"Take you to bed?" He finished, placing the pizza on the counter. "Yeah. You looked uncomfortable, so I carried you to your room."
He snorted, teasing her.
"I've never heard anyone snore that loud."
"Ugh." She groaned, hiding her face. "...I wasn't was I?"
"I thought Lion was here."
"Steven!" She laughed, landing a playful punch on his arm.
He staggered back, giving a faux grunt of pain.
"I warn you, brave Knight...this is not a battle you can win."
She rolled her eyes, slumping herself down on the sofa.
He continued his fake bravado.
"I say Knight...but your snores are akin to the roars of a dragon!"
"Are we watching Dogcopter or not?" She moaned, pulling him into a sofa cuddle.
"Noooo! The dragon has chosen me for her horde!"
Despite his devastation about his great defeat, he happily settled himself beside her. Allowing her arms to envelope around his middle, embracing him into a hug. She nuzzled into his neck as she did so, warm breath tickling his skin. He found himself blushing.
"Hold up." He said, dragging himself out of her grip. "Pizzas gonna get cold."
Connie sighed at the loss of contact. Her gaze followed him into the kitchen. He soon returned with the pizza, along with a brown paper bag.
He placed the pizza on the coffee table, opening the lid. Plain cheese. Not one of Connie's favorite pizzas, but Steven had gone vegetarian a couple of years back. It would do...for his sake.
"Got something for dessert too."Â
He removed a packet of biscuits from the bag, alongside an expensive looking artisan jam.
"Nothing but the best for my girlfriend."
She flashed him a smile. Doing her best to block out the thoughts of his proposal once again. He'd bought her jam and biscuits then tooâŠ
He placed himself back beside her, snuggling into her touch and snapping her out of her thoughts.
She rested her head on his shoulder.
"Are we watching this or not Steven?"
He chuckled, reaching for the remote.
Connie hadn't realized how bad these movies were. The animation mistakes, the shoddy voice acting, how dumb the plot was. God, she was getting old.
Steven seemed to be enjoying it though. But then again, Steven would enjoy anything so long as the characters were cute.
They weren't even halfway through the movie when Connie began to drift off beside him, yawning and relaxing from behind him. Steven debated waking her up. But he knew she needed some rest.Â
She was working herself too hard at the moment, so many deadlines and so many assignments. And now, she was sacrificing sleep for it.
He worried about her sometimes. One day, she'd burn herself out.
The most he could do for her tonight was let her rest.

Still not done with Chapter 6, but 4 has been completed, so check that one out if you liked Chapter 2, itâs a continuation on that Soft Jock fic. Hopefully Iâll complete Ch 6 in a few days.
This was inspired by the story of Regan's government cheese, which large caches of them are rumored to be in Missouri, called Show-me state here. Read this article about government cheese if you're interested: https://www.history.com/news/government-cheese-dairy-farmers-reagan
Connie's having some dark thoughts about what the future may hold, with the risk of societal collapse looming closer, but Steven's always willing to listen to her talk. A bit of existential dread and paranoia, but with a humorous lens. Connie Centric. Gen.
It wasnât often that Connie felt the need to call Steven at odd hours of the night. More often, in the wee hours before morning, he would send a message to see if she was awake, with bouts of insomnia or the stray nightmare of old battles or threats. But at 19 years old, 2nd Semester of Freshman Year, she called him at 2:07 am on a cold Tuesday evening.
After four rings, he answered with a groggy âHello?â
âI know itâs late, Iâm sorry for that, but we are at 90 seconds to midnight-âConnie said in a rushed and anxious tone.
âWait, no, Connie. Its 2 am, did you misread the time?â
âOn the doomsday clock, Steven!â Her voice fretful.
âIâm sorry, you lost me. What doomsday clock?â
âYouâve never heard of the doomsday clock?â Connie blanched. Her voice hushed in an apprehensive tone. âHow have I been this irresponsible not to tell you about this sooner?â
âSlow down, Connie. Why donât you start with the reason youâre up so late?â Steven said through a yawn. âThen you can tell me about the doomsday clock.â
âI was working on a project, I wasnât ready to stop but I was tired at 10:30, so I set a timer for 11:15 and took a nap.â She answered ardently
âUh-huh,â he replied.
âWhen I woke up, I had a Tweeter notification for a news story about the Doomsday Clock changing. I was scared, but I had to finish my project. The project is about great famines in history, and when I was finished, I looked up something I had cited. I ended up in an article rabbit-hole that lead me to the story of the largest surplus of cheese in America. Theyâre deep in caves, the biggest store located in Show-Me. The conclusion I came up with is that when society breaks down, if itâs just the two of us, we store flour and pasta in Lionâs Mane, then we travel to Show-me and make government cheese the main staple of our diet. All weâll have to do is find someplace to plant some easy to maintain fruits and vegetables and weâll have no trouble managing through societal collapse! Itâs the perfect plan!â

This chapter is a sequel chapter to day 2, Singing. This is set in the Soft Jock AU, @susoftjockau.[One of the most wholesome AUs out there, I heartily recommend it]
Steven and Connie are in established relationship here, and there's a good amount of talk about being drunk, as a warning, though that's more of a backdrop to Steven dismissing his own well-being.
Soft Jock AU. After sleeping off having a bit too much to drink, Steven and Connie talk. Rated T for discussions of inebriation.
Connie was very comfortable when she woke up. She would have snuggled deeper into the covers on her bed, but she knew that Steven was awake from the small circles he drew with his hand on her forearm. She cracked her eyes open and he still looked asleep but the motion continued. She set her hand on top of his and he sighed.
âYou awake?â he mumbled groggily.
âYeah,â she replied. He turned from laying on his back to his shoulder facing her. His eyes opened slowly, still looking tired. âHow do you feel?â she asked. He swallowed.
âMouthâs pretty dry, and I feel like I need to brush my teeth.â
âWell thatâs pretty normal,â Connie replied. âAnything else? Upset stomach, headache, or dizziness?â
âNo, Iâm ok. Just a bit tired.â Steven blinked a few times and glanced around. He noticed a slight bruise on his left forearm. âThat wasnât there yesterday.â
âYou stumbled a bit when we came in and hit it on the doorframe.â
âThat explains it.â Steven licked his right palm and pressed it to the mark, watching it fade. âThatâs better.â Connie looked him over.
âIf youâre feeling ok, sit up for me and look out the blinds,â she instructed. He turned over on his back and sat up slowly. He reached an arm out to the window behind her and peeked through the blinds. âAny light sensitivity?â
âNo,â he replied.
âYou donât get hangovers,â Connie hissed in blatant envy.
ââŠI guess not?â he muttered, laying back down on his back. âSorry.â She sighed.
âThatâs not something you should feel sorry about,â she replied unhappily. âFrom what I understand, theyâre miserable. I only have had one, and it wasnât good.â
âHow do you feel?â Steven asked.
âI didnât have enough to be drunk last night, so other than a bit cotton-mouthed, Iâm fine.â
âIâm sorry, again.â
âSteven, you know you apologized and thanked me a bunch last night, right? You donât have to keep apologizing.â Steven avoided her gaze. âHow much do you remember?â
âMost of it, I think.â

I wasn't able to finish Day 4 (or 6) yet, I'm trying not to make it into a monster chapter like Day 2, but this was easier to get out. I had an idea for a Greg & Steven one shot that this spun off of, I might try to write that later this month.
I hope you enjoy Connie being the comfort recipient, I've been punishing Steven too much and wanted to turn it around a bit. Its a bit more somber, but the kids will be alright.
I appreciate any feedback, and thanks for reading!
After a stressful evening, Steven wasn't quite prepared to have Connie fuming with him the following afternoon. He probably should have seen this coming, but he reassures her that his accident wasn't as bad as she fears. Post Volleyball, pre Snow Day of SU Future. Hurt/ Comfort. Steven Centric. Gen.
Steven had spent the day with his dad, working from his phone on rescheduling the projects he wouldnât be able to delegate. The unscheduled tune-up his car had needed only resulted in 2 missed lectures which wouldnât be too bad, but most of his other work would be piling up on his desk at Little Homeschool. This wasnât how he wanted to spend his day, but it was unavoidable.
Greg had avoided putting any undue pressure on his son, seeing how booked his schedule usually was. Talking to the mechanics and getting the work needed with the car handled was something he could do that could ease Stevenâs mind. The other phone call Greg had made while Steven was busy was not going to relieve the teenagerâs stress right away, but it would likely help him in the long run. Greg just hoped Steven wouldnât be too mad. Greg had kept his promise that he wouldnât tell the gems the real reason the car needed to fixed today and not on a less busy day. However, Connie had not been mentioned in that conversation, and it was probably best she be kept in the loop.
When Steven darted off to give Connie a call, Greg went to grab a soda and snack for when Steven returned, knowing that would at least help keep his son from chewing him out too badly.
At around 4pm Connie sent Steven a text that just said âCall me.â
Steven rounded the back of the carwash and paced nervously for a moment. That could be about anything. Maybe trouble with something in class? Or something was going on with her parents? Or maybe it has something to do with one of her friends, or clubs? There was no use just hypothesizing about the problem, it would be better to get more data and then work on fixing it. After 3 rings the call connected.

This is obscenely long for what was supposed to be a drabble so I'm just going to link @susoftjockau, theyâre incredibly wholesome and cute.
Edit: I may have gotten a few things wrong because I posted at 3 am, & this is an unbetaâd work. Also, being that I am not affiliated with the SJ AU, I donât know if Fionaâs personality at all fits within its standard. If thereâs another cheerleader character that her actions would make more sense for, I can totally change it. Its Connverse focused after all.
The first song Steven's riffing on is "It's Only Love" (though you may know it as Michelle) by The Beatles. The second song is "Love Like You," Steven Universe's extended credits theme.
I am continuing this for thursdayâs prompt, together, as I orginally wanted them to have a conversation in the morning but at 3 am I had to call this done. I wrote over 4k words in one day that I was off from work and I canât be doing that again, or staying up later, haha.
Lastly, the idea that Steven only likes sweet alcoholic bevs is hardwired into me, as someone who hates beer and wine, I think he wouldn't like them either. I mean he doesn't like energy drinks for stars sake (he makes a face when drinking one in Kevin Party), what about beer would be appealing when he can have wine coolers and ciders?
Anyway, feedback makes me smile, even if you tell me about typos or that I could be doing something better. Please let me know of I neglected any tags I should mention. Thanks for reading!
Edit 2: Tumblr mobile ate this post so when I got back home and tried to fix i the format didnât have my readmore, so if you reblog it wonât be as much of a wall of text anymore. Sorry!
A night at a party for College-age Steven and Connie results in one too strong drink, a clumsy walk home, and embracing each other through the tears. Hurt-Comfort in the Soft Jock AU. Established relationship, but no significant physical intimacy. Rated T for drinking and one use of mild language. Some depression talk and self esteem issues too. Teen.
Steven had been sitting at a table, enjoying the music and sipping a soda in a red plastic cup until all that was left was ice. He was waiting for Connie to finish her conversation with Natalie across the room. He bobbed his head lightly to the music playing from the speaker by the doorway. He was smiling at Connie until Fiona came to sit down in front of him. He sat up a bit straighter and looked at her.
âHey Fiona,â he said.
âYou sticking around, Universe? Or you itching to get out of here,â asked Fiona.
âI wouldnât say Iâm itching to get out of here,â he replied. âBut Connie and I were looking to leave soon.â
âDo you want another drink before you go?â
âWell, I did already have 2 wine coolers earlier, so I think Iâm done for the night.â
âReally,â she asked. âI mean, how long ago was that? Like 10?â
â10:30,â he replied. âBut I have to get home soon, anyway.â
âThat was almost 2 hours ago.â She said. âYou can have another drink. Iâll be right back, wait here. You like soda and orange flavor, right?â She began to stand and he tried to wave her back.
âDonât trouble yourself for me, Fiona.â
âIf you like soda and fruit juices, youâll like it. You can barely taste the alcohol, the way I make it. Donât go anywhere, Iâll make one for each of us.â
âWell, ok.â
She disappeared into the kitchen, just past the speakers. He tapped his foot and glanced back to Connie, who had leaned into Natalie as their conversation continued. Natalie had on a wry expression as she finished telling Connie something, and Connie threw her head back and laughed. It was nice to see Connie be more comfortable with herself after a few years in college. To see her laughing at a party and not have himself be the cause of it was a good feeling. Steven canât help but feel his chest swell with pride. He smiled at her but didnât try to get her attention yet.

I don't know if I'm be able to do all the days of Converse Week but I was thinking about giving this a try. I have ideas for at least 2 more days, but since this one is on the longer side, if I cop out before day 7 I'll say this counted for Future as well as Exploration.
Iâm more than halfway done with prompt 2. Hereâs hoping I can just edit the link in when Iâm done.
Quick note: These are the state names Connieâs talking about (because everyone should get Keystone and Jersey):
Buckeye - Ohio
Empire State - New York
Lone Star - Texas
Steven and Connie are trying to figure out where they're going to be spending the next few years. New exciting things seem on the horizon for Connie, but Steven needs a bit of encouragement after Little Graduation. Mostly platonic with a side of romantic pining. Steven Centric.Â
Jam bud conversations on the phone were nice, but Steven missed seeing Connie in person. This as one of those weeks where a call was the only way she could fit him into her busy schedule. He draped himself over the bed, lying on his back, trying to relax as she told him about her plans and projects.
âHave you given it much thought where you want to go to school?â Steven asked, trying to sound encouraging and avoid sounding clingy.
âWell, thereâs lots of options, but I havenât nailed down anything exactly,â she replied. âI really think I want to work at Nasa, or do science communication elsewhere in the engineering field. But Iâm worried that Iâll get to a big expensive school somewhere and after taking a few classes Iâll want to change my major and should have gone somewhere else.â Steven hummed in thought. âRight now Iâm thinking about an Engineering major and either minoring in Video Journalism, or double majoring and then maybe Political Science as a minor?â
âWell,â he responded, âI know that your parents will support you no matter what you want to do or where you go.â
âIâm not super worried about that,â she said. âItâs more about wasting time or money. I know that they have enough in my college fund for in-state schools, public or private. But if I broaden my search to out of state, Iâll need to secure good scholarships to leave school debt free, which theyâve stressed will really help me in my early adulthood. And in turn, if I need to get scholarships, I should really know what Iâm going to school for, because some scholarships are dependent on majors.â
