If Connor’s startled at seeing one of America’s most wanted in a gas station attendant uniform, he doesn’t show it. “Damn, Percy, not even a hi?”
“Annabeth and I have a job at the Bellagio. You’re the best grifter we know.”
“I thought you and Beth were settling down, white-picket fence, all that.”
Percy shrugs. “Didn’t work out. Normalcy’s not for people like us, I guess. But Annabeth and I will always be best friends.”
Connor glances at the meter. His tank’s almost full. Over the car windowsill, he gestures for Percy to come closer.
“You know I don’t work for free.”
Green eyes crinkle in amusement. “You want a kiss like last time?”
Well, now that Percy’s not with Annabeth…
Percy gives a little “oof” as Connor pulls him closer by his bead necklace.
“It’d be boring to get the same prize twice. After the job, let me take you out on a date.”
Laughing, Percy stands up and unhooks the gas nozzle from Connor’s car. “I’ll be seeing you around then, Stoll.”
“Oh, I also want 20% of the cut.”
“If you do good. Hell, I’ll throw in the kiss for free.”
