Conjugating Verbs
A lot of the time in Korean, you will see words ending in λ€. If the ending is notγ λλ€, μ΅λλ€ then itβs in dictionary form so you should not use them in plain speech and you should conjugate them.
You can conjugate by looking at the verb stem. To get the verb stem just take off the λ€ and look at whatβs left.
The most basic form you conjugate into is basic present form.
If the last vowel in the word is a γ or γ then you use μμ. If the last vowel in the word is not either of those and is γ or γ then you use μ΄μ. Using μμ: -μ΄λ€- to live -μλ€- to know -보λ€- to see/to watch -μ€λ€-to come 1)μ΄λ€= μ΄=μ΄μμ 2)μλ€= =μ=μμμ 3) 보λ€= 보=보μμ= λ΄μ 4)μ€λ€=μ€=μ€μμ=μμ Using μ΄μ: λ¨Ήλ€=to eat λλ€= to boil κ±Έλ€=to walk μ λ€= to carry on onesβ back λ¨Ήλ€= λ¨Ή= λ¨Ήμ΄μ λλ€= λ=λμ΄μ κ±Έλ€= κ±Έ= κ±Έμ΄μ μ λ€=μ =μ μ΄μ with νλ€ verbs:
νλ€ verbs are one of the most common. It by itself means βto doβ. Youβre going to come across a lot of these verbs that end in νλ€ such as
μ’μνλ€-to like μ리νλ€- to cook μ ννλ€- to call( on the phone) 곡λΆνλ€- to study
Regardless of whatβs attached, νλ€ always becomes ν΄μ.
μ’μνλ€= μ’μν΄μ μ리νλ€=μ리ν΄μ μ ννλ€= μ νν΄μ 곡λΆνλ€= 곡λΆν΄μ
