Karnataka politics may be heading toward a major turning point.

Speculation around Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s possible resignation has exploded after high-level Congress meetings in Delhi and a private discussion between Rahul Gandhi and the Karnataka CM.

While the Congress leadership officially denies any plans for a change, political circles are buzzing with reports that a leadership transition could be announced as early as May 28.

At the center of the conversation once again: DK Shivakumar.

Ever since Congress returned to power in Karnataka in 2023, rumors of a “rotational chief minister” agreement between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar have never fully disappeared. Now, with the government completing three years, those old discussions are back in the spotlight.

Meanwhile, reports also suggest Congress may consider moving Siddaramaiah to national politics through a Rajya Sabha role — though nothing has been confirmed.

The political tension reflects a deeper balancing act inside Congress: power-sharing, caste equations, regional influence, and the future leadership of one of the party’s most important states.

For now, all eyes are on Bengaluru and May 28.
