Confusing languages
So guys, I am German but I spend about 80% of my day talking, reading, texting in English.
My best friend is very active on tumblr and other social media as well, so she loves English nearly as much as I do.
So far, so good. Right?
No.
I can't speak German anymore. I can't form complete, correct sentences anymore, especially when I'm with her and we talk about things we saw on The Internet in English. We just mess up.
An example: My best friend and I were talking about going to the forrest near her house because the weather was quite nice. I ask her if she can take her Polaroid camera with her because: "Wollen wir photos zusammen taken?" ("Do we want to take photos together?"). Taken (verb ending -en) is even adjusted so it's the gramatically correct form in German.
This happens on a regular basis? And it freaks me out, because even when I'm in class I am incapable of forming proper German sentences.
Another example: I am in my German class and we discuss a German book. And for a reason incomprehensible to me, I cannot find the German equivalent to "quote" (It's "Zitat", in case you were curious.). So, because I have to FINISH my sentence, I just say quote in my damn German sentence in my damn German class. Do you know how many weird looks I got from my classmates??
Anyway I love being basically bilingual, but shit, it's annoying as hell sometimes.
