Thank you!!!! You certainly sparked them into a wakeful state, what can I say?! lol This got long, but suffice it to say, itâs a pretty important moment from their history together. Enjoy! Â
Under cut for length.

Arcturus Station, 2175
He waits quietly in the shadows off the docking ring, eyes keenly alert for his quarry as the crowds of Arcturus Station pass by. Â The SSV London sits quietly, docked yet closed off. Â For someone used to being patient, the wait is starting to eat away at him. Â The clock is ticking; Forty-eight hours. Â Itâs now down to forty-six, and still no show. Â
Too many people wander the area for his liking, aggravating an already challenging experience. Â The incessant chatter of voices combined with at least four types of music clash discordantly in his head. Â After two hours of it and the threat of a migraine, Lieutenant Kaidan Alenko finally makes the decision to leave. Â His hand flies over the haptic keyboard of his omni-tool relaying the change of plans. If his partner doesnât like it, Kaidan will deal with it and any potential fallout later. Â If he doesnât do something now, later will be in jeopardy.
The change in destination isnât out of the ordinary, either. Â Murphâs is a favorite and the closest thing to an Earthside tavern theyâve found in their travels; the closest thing to home theyâre likely to find, in all honesty. Started by an ex-soldier-turned-entrepreneur, the quaint atmosphere and charming wait staff have turned it into a top destination for soldier or politician alike. Â Even now, several hours before the evening rush, itâs packed. The music is loud here, too, but thereâs a spot in the back that Kaidan found on one visit that isnât so bad, and thatâs where he heads now. Â
The booth is wedged out of sight of most of the patrons, and within a couple minutes of his arrival, heâs sitting comfortably with a glass of his favorite. Â More time passes, the glass slowly empties. Â When he hits the halfway mark, a half-tilt of his left wrist alerts him another half hour has gone; absently, his fingers tap lightly against the side of the glass to a rhythm he hasnât heard for the past eight months, and likely wonât hear again anytime soon after this two-day pass. Â Not for lack of trying, though. Â He already has feelers out, a request put in for shore leave, something more substantial than forty-eight hours, though with an increase in pirate activity in the Terminus, the chances of getting it are about as good as winning the house at the Lucky Seven Casino. Â And if there is one thing he wonât do, itâs hedge his bets. Â If it isnât a sure thing, he walks away. Â
A sure thing. Â A smile curves at his lips, a particular face coming to mind. Â Yeah, if there is one label he can put on Lieutenant Lachlan Shepard, Alliance Navy, itâs that the man is most definitely a âsure thing,â despite his occasional squirrelly methods of getting himself there. Â At least, thatâs what the rumors say; to hear tell it from the man himself, itâs a whole other story that rumor has blown way out of proportion. Â Personally, Kaidan believes itâs somewhere in between. Â He knows the man well, has for nearly a decade now, and if there is one word he would associate with Lachlan, itâs âunique.â
He tilts the glass back for a sip when a blur of movement slides into his peripheral vision and ends with a tall, ginger-haired, lanky body in Alliance fatigues dropping onto the bench across from him and bouncing to a stop. Â His face is bright, excited, but thereâs also a hint of reservation and apology in them. âSorry,â he murmurs with a lopsided smile. Â âDidnât think we were ever going to be let off that bloody ship!â Â He reaches across toward the glass, one brow arched in question.
Kaidan relents, pushing the glass with one hand while signaling the server for two more. Â With a hint of a teasing grin and a wink, he replies, âAnd here I thought you were standing me up. Â Guess I was worrying for nothing.â
Lachlan chuckles as he tosses back the alcohol and sets the glass aside. Â Two more drinks arrive by the time he turns back and after a quick toast, both men drink again. Â âOh, that hits the spot. Â When did you get here?â
âTwo hours ago.â Â Kaidan waves off the apologies he knows are coming â thatâs his job after all, heâs the Canadian â and instead adds, âIf nothing else, itâs given me time to think.â
âOh?â Â A sudden tension fills the space between them, and for a moment, Lachlanâs eyes widen in concern. Â âAbout?â
âUs.â
Lachlanâs glass hits the table surface with a dull thud. As Kaidan watches, he notices the slight tremor in his hand.  âYou âŠ?  All right. What about ⊠us?â
Kaidan leans over the table and lowers his voice. Â âIâm tired, Lach.â
Lachlanâs fingers, tapping an incoherent rhythm on the table, stop suddenly as if frozen and his gaze drops, but not before Kaidan sees them widen further, a hint of fear in the sky blue.  âI ⊠I donât know what to say to that.â  His voice is barely above a whisper and difficult for Kaidan to hear. Â
Lifting his drink to his lips with one hand, Kaidan mentally sighs and uses the other to slide across the table. Â Two and a half hours late, after eight months apart, thereâs bound to be misunderstandings, and Murphâs is not the place he wants to have that discussion. Â Bringing his hand to a stop next to Lachlanâs, he waits a moment, then uses his index finger to shift the passkey from beneath his palm over to his companion. Â Only then does he set his glass aside, rise to his feet. Â Heâs done with this place; the rest is up to his companion. Â âDonât be too long.â Â Without further word, he exits.
There are any number of accommodations available on Arcturus Station, of course, ranging from apartments on loan by friends out on deployment, to hotels or the general barracks. Â This visit itâs his choice, and he opted for one that would provide the least chance of interruption by unconcerned parties. Â Fifteen minutes later, he arrives at the hotel and heads up to the room where he opens the door with a second passkey and turns on the light. Wandering inside, he waits a couple of minutes until he hears the door open behind him. Â
With a kick of his foot, Lachlan shuts the door using a bit more force than necessary and crosses the space between them in three long, angry strides. Â âBloody eejit!â Â
Kaidan laughs even as Lachlanâs hand wraps around the back of his head and pulls him close. Â Their lips lock, desperation fueling the fiery temper of his companion, but Kaidan returns it gladly and easily, his arms sliding around Lachlanâs waist to hold him still. Â When they break free, both heaving in air, he grins. Â âDonât tell me you fell for that?â he teases, reaching up to run a finger along the other manâs jaw. Â âYou know me better!â
Lachlan combs a hand through his hair, now on the longer side of regulation and dropping almost into his eyes as it did when he was younger. Â The same hand eventually comes to rest on Kaidanâs chest, palm flat for a moment over his heart, then tightens around the material there. Â âIâm the one whoâs tired,â he murmurs. Â âThird watch last night. Â I shouldâve realized you were toying with me.â
âAnd I was irritated at losing nearly three hours with you,â Kaidan admits. Â He coaxes the hand free of his uniform and Lachlan over to the bed. Â It doesnât take much effort to get him to lie down. Sliding onto the mattress beside him, Kaidan watches quietly as Lachlan settles in. Â He reaches out a hand and runs from shoulder to wrist until he can take Lachlanâs hand in his. Â âGo to sleep if you want. Â We can talk later.â
âI donât want to sleep. Â Weâve already missed three hours.â Â
The tone is petulant and Kaidan canât help but laugh softly. Â Lachlan glares up at him, but he effect of it is lost when he cracks a yawn. Â Leaning over, Kaidan presses a gentle kiss to his brow. âRest. Â Just a nap, if you like. Â Weâve still got plenty of time, right?â
Lachlanâs eyes close as he nods.
Though Kaidan isnât as tired, he snuggles close enough he can slide an arm around his waist and hold him close. Â It is frustrating; they have so little time together as is, and now theyâve lost even more of it. Â But itâs the way it has to be if they want to serve in the Alliance. Â It only makes the short time they do get together that much more precious. Â And the need for a decent shore leave that much more important. Â Only once since enlisting have they managed actual shore leave together. Â That needs to change. Â
At some point, Kaidan falls asleep as well, because next he is aware, his eyes are opening to a pair of sky blue orbs framed by a pale freckled face looking back at him, a grin curling his lips. Â Kaidan blinks and rubs his eyes. Â Neither says anything for a moment, and they simply spend the time looking at one another. Â When Lachlan pushes himself up, he murmurs, âJust lie there, âkay?â
Kaidan rolls onto his back but doesnât break eye contact. Â âSomething on your mind?â
The grin softens into a warm smile. Â âYou; always you.â Â
Lachlanâs finger traces a lightly down Kaidanâs nose to his lips, all the while staring intently. Â The tips of his fingers have changed over the years; different callouses marking his hands in different ways than the cello, but the touch itself is the same light, feathery sensation. Â When they reach his lips, Kaidan gently bows his lips to kiss them and notices the way Lachlanâs smile wavers just a bit. Â Quickly, Kaidan reaches over to lace his fingers through the other manâs. âI was thinking.â
Lachlanâs eyes brighten. Â âYeah?â
Tugging gently, Kaidan pulls him close enough until Lachlan hovers right over his lips. Â âYeah.â
âWhat about?â
Kaidan slides his other hand up to Lachlanâs shoulder, just over it enough tickle the hair at the base of his neck with his fingers. âI was thinking ⊠what if we got married?â
A soft gasp escapes Lachlanâs lips and he starts to pull back, but stops.  âAre you ⊠are you serious?â
Kaidan huffs softly.  âArenât you the one who always accuses me of being too serious?â He waits patiently, because heâs good at that too, even better at it than being serious most of the time.  Lachlan, on the other hand âŠ
âYou did just ⊠suggest ⊠ I mean, Iâm not dreaming this, right?â  He runs a hand roughly over his face, pulling the other up and scrubbing hard.  âIâm not asleep in my bunk back on the London?â
Chuckling, Kaidan pulls himself up and pushes his pillow behind his back for comfort. Â âYou are most definitely not asleep. Â Sorry I sprung it on you like that, but â.â
Lachlan just stares, bewildered. Â âYouâre apologizing?â
âI am Canadian, remember?â
The blue eyes narrow and darken. Â âIâm going to ignore that this once, I swear, but donât you make me hurt you when youâve just proposed, âkay?â Â
Still snickering softly, Kaidan nods.  It drives Lachlan crazy when he falls back on that excuse, but sometimes itâs just too damned amusing to watch him react.  âSo, about that proposal âŠ?â
âWhat about it?â Â He speaks almost too quickly, as if afraid the words will be taken back.
But he isnât the only one a little nervous.  âWell, you never did say yes ⊠or no.â
Lachlan groans, eyes closing briefly and his cheeks darkening a bit. Â Moving a hand to Kaidanâs cheek, he brings their foreheads together and just rests there for a moment. Â âYou are an eejit, Kaidan Matthew, but I do love you, so yes, yes, a thousand times yes,â he murmurs while ghosting light kisses over Kaidanâs face until he lands on his lips with something much more satisfying, enough so that as he pulls back after a moment, he cannot hide a groan when he asks, âSatisfied?â
Kaidan swallows tightly, manages a half nod, then grins. Â âItâll do.â
They sit like that for a few minutes, staring at one another, the whole world around them now changed yet still the same, until Lachlan asks, âBut when? Â How? Â We havenât been able to get shore leave together for years!â
âBeen thinking about that.â Â The nice thing about this moment, Kaidan decides, is that theyâre here, together, alone together for the first time in months, and even though they have less than forty-eight hours now, they still have all the time in the world. Â His eyes fall to Lachlanâs lips and he can tell that Lachlan notices because of the grin that slides into place. Â Returning the look is far too easy. Â It also means that Lachlan is distracted which gives Kaidan the opportunity to reach out, wrap his hand around his shirt and tug him in close again for another thoroughly satisfying kiss. Â âMmm. Where was I?â
Lachlan chuckles. Â âDunno, you were the one with the ideas. Â You tell me.â
Kaidanâs lips are about numb after that last kiss and he runs his tongue over them lightly. Â Again, Lachlan follows the movement; Kaidanâs breath hitches slightly. âElysium. Â Six months from now?â
Lachlan reaches over and starts toying with the button on Kaidanâs shirt until it pops open. Â Kaidan arches a brow at him, but Lachlan ignores his knowing look and moves to the next one. Â âSix more months on my deployment,â he murmurs. Â âLetâs say seven. Â Maybe I can get leave right after. Â What about you?â
âIâve already put in a request but I can amend it. Should be able to work it out easily enough.â Â Within minutes, he sits up and the shirt falls loosely off his shoulders. Â âElysium okay with you? Â Or would you rather we do this back at the orchard with our families?â
Lachlanâs hands, now working on his own shirt, hesitate. He looks away for a minute; from experience, Kaidan can guess the direction of Lachlanâs thoughts and reaches over, taking one hand in his. Â âLach, You still have Iain.â
âI know.â Â Turning back, Lachlan shakes his head. Â âLetâs just do us. Â Something small, private. Â Itâll be too complicated to plan around them right now anyway, and I donât want to dump all of that onto them.â
âMom would â .â
âDo it in a heartbeat, I know.â Â Lachlan reaches for Kaidan again, pulls him in for a quick kiss of thanks this time. Â âJust us.â
Kaidan nods. Â âAll right, just us. Â Elysium. Seven months. Â Anything else?â Â Their eyes meet again and Kaidan notices a hint of trepidation in Lachlanâs. Â âWhat is it?â
âSo, thereâs this custom âŠâ
He nods when Lachlan goes silent again. Â âYeah?â
âIn Scotland, when two people get married, thereâs a tradition of having white heather involved â itâs supposed to bring good fortune to the marriage, that sort of thing.â Â
Something still holds him back, and Kaidan cradles his face with one hand. Â âWhatever you want,â he promises.
âI was thinking ⊠tattoos.  Each of us.  Nothing garish, nothing too big; some place thatâll be hidden under clothing and we can have the date added once we sort that out.â  He takes a deep breath.  âYou may not have noticed, but Mom used to always have white heather in the flowers on the kitchen table back on Mindoir.â
Kaidan thinks back to his time there, to the meals they all shared together.  And in the middle of it all ⊠ âI remember, and I donât have a problem with that.â
âYou donât?â
Kaidan shakes his head this time. Â âItâs important to you, isnât it?â Â Lachlan nods. Â âThen itâs important to me.â Â He lowers his hand to finish the buttons on Lachlanâs shirt then pushes it down his arms until his right bicep is bare. Â Using his finger, he traces the Celtic design of the Rowan tree he finds there. Â âI like the idea that weâll have something to share like you and Iain do.â
Lachlan huffs softly. Â âI donât deserve you,â he mumbles, leaning in for another kiss. Â
Kaidan returns it, gently at first, but that doesnât last. Â âMmm. Â Iâd say you have that backwards, but I donât want to start an argument right now.â Â He nuzzles his nose along the side if Lachlanâs. Â âI have a far better idea.â
âYeah?â Â Lachlan pushes Kaidan back onto the bed, following him. Â âWhat might that be, I wonder?â

Explain: I was looking for somewhere to use my GSD on and there werenât a lot of art shops open, but I checked this personâs out and itâs amazing! Not only is the art beautiful, it is also at a good price. They were very reasonable and nice as well. Would definitely commission again!
Concilliabule - A secret meeting of people who are hatching a plot; orphic-ophelia, takemeinyourdream.
She takes comfort in the fact they can go home at the end of the day.
Ayleth is in love. She knows she's in love. She knows that there's no one else in the world who does to her heart what Blythe does. She knows that there's never going to be a question of where she stands and where her heart lies to rest. And she knows that it doesn't matter when they're at work. She knows that they have to be separate at the office. She knows that her role is to be a check and balance and genuine voice for the people.
So she loves knowing, at the end of the day, they can go home.Â
She loves knowing that she'll be allowed to kick off her heels and pull her hair down from its tight bun. She loves knowing she'll be allowed to tug off Blythe's blazer and hush the older woman with delirious kisses. She loves knowing that, after all the strain and stress and holding herself to a higher standard, they'll go home and they'll be able to lean together instead of holding themselves up all on their own.
It's unnerving, the first time she slips into bed and sees Blythe's face pulled into the same intense thought she often has at work. It's distressing, the first time she nips playfully at her partner's neck in the darkness of their bedroom and finds herself pushed gently away. It's stunning, the first time she says "we're home" and Blythe responds, "but I've been thinking..."
She clings blindly to the comfort that she can always manage to stay awake until Blythe falls asleep. She kisses delicately at the softness that finally manages to return to the forehead of the woman she knows she loves more than life itself and wonders if this is all she'll ever have left.

In 8th grade, my friend had a crush on this girl. I so happened to have her number. He finally got rid of his bajingo and was gonna call her. I gave him the number and told him to immediately ask for her, and to call me back on what happens, you know, what guys do.
Oh yeah. The number I gave him was Dominos Pizza.
He calls me back angered, and that was great, I gave him the real one.
Another one with the same guy comes in a misreading. He was txting me lines from Rasputia from Norbit. It led to her name being mentioned, and for some reason, I explained to him who RASPUTIN the mystic of Russia was. He was so confused, I re read, it was all very fun.
