Trying to sort out my centre back tension and pain today.
So far the best stretch that actually stretches the right area for me was on this body/muscle building website. Its also cool because you can literally see the muscles moving in the video. Like - yep, those ones.
This mid back stretch will help you stretch out one of the toughest areas to reach: the middle and upper back. Learn this stretch and see wh
It wasn't a total fix but it helped. I couldn't even do it properly since I had to use a desk edge not a door frame but it still helped.
All the other "stretches to do at work" and sites with pictures of women reaching round to their back with big red pain indicators on them never seem to help me.
The other thing I discovered is that the ergonomically-correct 90 degree arm angle when using the computer makes that area uncomfortable, but pushing the keyboard further away and increasing the angle to about 130 degrees relieves the discomfort. Not sure if there are long term negatives to this but it is much more comfortable. Haven't been able to work out what this means yet or how to perhaps improve that area so it doesn't need these interventions.
One of the odd things I’m experiencing both getting older and holding down an office job is how much I don’t really want to be spending much time on the computer once I’m home.
Like, I have my Switch for gaming and my tablet for doing art, and while the computer might be better at those things (and more flexible besides), neither of these require me to do the same “sitting in a desk chair, staring at a screen placed ~3 feet away” that I’ve just spent 8 or so hours doing, and that’s more important to me right now. (For bonus points, it’s harder to do the multi-task distraction that I tend to fall into when doing art on the computer, because I really can’t have more than one thing on the screen at a time).
There are some things that I can’t make portable: my powerful art programs, ffxiv, my turn based strategy games… everything else, this set up is simply more appealing to someone who already spends far too much time at a desk.
F3 gratitude post
I just wanted to remind everyone of the super helpful F3 key that will let you search for a particular combination of letter/numbers/symbols so you can easily find stuff in websites. (Or go to a specific part of a story that you want to reread. Or find your spot again after your cat stepped on the space bar and landed you at the bottom of the page...)
It’s there, and it’s awesome!

Computer Use (Acuity)
Computers are ubiquitous in the modern day, and having a superuser around is a huge boon to any party.
Read Code: If the code was written in a obfuscated way, it is a contest of computer use vs computer use, with the writer getting a bonus equal to +1 for every 25 lines of code. Otherwise, it is TN 0 + 1 for every 25 lines of code. Well-written, modular code can be read in multiple batches, lowering the TN but require more roles to understand the whole picture.
Craft/Invent Item: See the Artist skill. Inventing computer programs generally uses the crafting rules, and in many cases, the raw materials are very cheap (~$4), enough to cover the cost of loose leaf paper and cups of coffee. Inventing a new computer or robot with standard parts and writing an operating system for it uses the inventing rules. Creating new, nonstandard parts requires the engineering skill.
