@gandalfs-mommier-milkers submitted: Do you happen to have any idea what this lil guy is and what he's doing? Found in [removed] (please remove location before posting! Thanks)
UHHHHH well it looks like a compost fly. But I can't seem to find what their eggs look like so I don't know if it's laying a string of eggs or exuding a parasite or something. If anyone has seen this before feel free to comment!
@anomaly-beans submitted: Curious what this green eyed fella is? (MO)
It’s really hard to say from this side other than that it’s a fly! Could be a compost fly.
Eddie submitted via email: Different type of flies than we usually get in the trash at the back of the pizza place I work. Never seen this kind before -- bigger and longer bodied than your usual housefly, and greenish in better lighting. What are they? Located in Buena Vista, VA, USA.
This is hilarious because I also would be out by the trash looking at bugs. It’s a compost fly, Ptecticus trivittatus! They like rotting vegetable matter which I bet includes pizza toppings :)
@cicada-days-of-summer submitted: mystery bug on the bus! was very chill let me take pictures before they flew off. maybe some kinda fly? southern in
Definitely a fly, probably a compost fly. They’re very cute!

@residentbunburyist submitted: This fellow rode on my pants into my house, without even asking! I let him back out, but got a nice pic of him first. From western NY!
Oh very rude to go into your house without asking. Bugs don't understand human customs :\ A very cute little pal, though! Looks like a compost fly. :)
(Thumbs up kitty added for size)
I found these two uh. 😳. On my garbage bin. They're about 1.5-2 cm, and I live in the Greater Toronto Area. Would you happen to know what these two are? And what species of Little Guy™ I can expect dozens of around the house?
Ope! Maybe they are just hugging :) These little dudes are compost flies, probably Ptecticus trivittatus!
