OKAY y’all I’m sad!!!! Tumblr ate an ask *as* I was writing (Hell site strikes yet again....) Okay I don’t remember the full ask but it went something like this
“the sleepover was so sweet, but let’s add on some more cryptid Sunny. He gets out of bed and puts his orange cat on his head and goes for a walk about town in the middle of the night. He continues to acquire cats left and right until he eventually ends up with a stack of cats on his head. The locals don’t know what he is”
I’m taking this ask and the intense childhood nostalgia it launched and writing a thing. Tumblr tried to stop me but I will prevail
SO this doesn’t take place during the same exact sleepover as the other cryptid sunny ask, but this does take place during a sleepover at Faraway
The orange cat has become Sunny’s in all but name. Anytime he is in town somehow it finds their little group of five and jumps into Sunny’s arms.
Hero tried to say it was a dirty stray, but Sunny gave him the most deadpan look and Hero relented.
They try to name OrangeCat. Sunny won’t name him. OrangeCat is known simply as OrangeCat, but the rest of the group also occasionally calls him Joe because unfortunately it was the only name that stuck (Kel constantly holds it over Aubrey that his suggestion beat hers. Kel declares his full name is Orange Joesifer but apparently thats “too idiotic”)
To Sunny he is just OrangeCat.
OrangeCat is also Sunny’s only companion in the dead of the night when he can’t sleep. He will wake up and be surrounded by black-red blood and hair choking him, and his panic will be interrupted by a tiny rusty purr and the weight of a cat on his chest. OrangeCat never minds when Sunny squeezes him tight against his chest, or when Sunny carries him everywhere obsessively. Sunny thinks that maybe OrangeCat needed someone to love him too.
They go on walkabouts together. The town is peaceful and quiet past midnight, and the dark isn’t frightening anymore. OrangeCat’s favorite position to sit in is lounging on top of Sunny’s head, so that’s usually where he ends up.
They walk to the park first usually, and Sunny will sometimes acquire a few more cats. Two Black. Two White. Two Grey. One orange. He continues on his walk. He will go to the fountain and acquire two more. One White. One Grey.
The final cat is at the cemetery. One Black cat (NotMewo. No Not Mewo.....Sunny can never convince himself that she isn’t Mewo) All of the cats usually jump off here and he is left with One OrangeCat and One Black
When they were little, Mari used to read him a book called Caps for Sale. Sunny likes to joke that his job now is to be the Cats for Sale man. Sometimes he says this to Mari’s grave, with the moon hanging over them full and bright
With OrangeCat on his head and a Black Cat (NotMewo) curled in his lap, Sunny can doze off in the cemetery for a few hours of peace.
