After rewatching Pixar's Elio, I found myself enjoying it more than I expected. So, I decided to draw a little design I did for Elio Solis, as well as my OC Emmet Amell for an AU idea I'm working on. I also added a few other pieces related to this work for you to see as well.
The basic premise of the story is that an orphaned Elio Solis finds himself transported to the faraway planet of Ordell - a planet similar to Earth - via an interplanetary portal. He ends up being found by young scientist, inventor, and astronomer Emmet Amell and his family.Â
While initially frightened at their first encounter with alien life, the Amell family soon came to know and love Elio like one of their own, eventually adopting him into their family.

Glordon didnât have a chance to look around the last time he was on Earth, considering he was dying of hypothermia. This time, he excitedly followed Elio as his aunt showed them around the base, explaining what each area was, the names of their odd-looking shipsâElio and Miss Olga referred to them as combat planesâ, and introduced him to some people who worked there.Â
Afterward, Elio showed him the snack table, where some Hylurgian soldiers were checking out the food, though so far, none of them had tasted it.Â
âThere are more colors, but the President wanted something âformalâ,â murmured Elio, staring at the floating balls called balloons.
âDoes Mr. President always attend your parties?â asked Glordon.
âNot really. He did this time because Earth had never received alien visitors before, and he wanted to make a good impression. You know, so your dad wonât destroy the planet.âÂ
âDonât worry. Dad wouldnât destroy a planet unless someone gives him a reason to.âÂ
The chubby man Olga referred to as Melmac approached Danthera, who was checking over a brown, square-shaped pastry. âExcuse me, Iâve been meaning to tell you, I love your exoskeleton! What is it made of?â His tone was excited, like a little larvaâs, as he touched one of Dantheraâs front legs, until he noticed her annoyed expression. He quickly stepped back, laughing nervously. âSorry.â
âOn my planet, only cowards and criminals apologize,â said Danthera coldly.Â
Glordon checked out the snacking table. Admittedly, the food didnât look as colorful or tasty as the snacks they had at the Communiverse. As he was reaching out for a âcupcakeâ, Danthera stopped him and insisted someone else taste it first to ensure itâs safe to eat.Â
âItâs not poisoned,â insisted Elio.Â
âBut whatever your food is made of might not sit well with our stomachs,â retorted Danthera matter-of-factly.Â
âI had some Earth food in the Communiverse and I didnât get sick,â said Glordon.
âCorrect me if Iâm wrong, my Princeling, but that food was crafted from mimollusks, wasnât it?â
Oh. When she puts it that way, it makes sense.Â
Melmac stepped in. âThese are cupcakes. Theyâre a popular pastry for social gatherings.âÂ
Danthera raised an invisible eyebrow, picked one cupcake, and bit into it.Â
ââŚYou were supposed to remove the wrapping first,â said Elio.Â
Melmac would explain what each snack was, and Danthera would taste it, except for the tiny fish eggs called caviar. Slowly, the other soldiers started tasting the food, with some of them even grabbing more.Â
âYou guys donât eat seafood?â asked Elio, staring at the untouched caviar tray.Â
âNope. We get sick,â said Glordon before munching on a chocolate eâclair.Â
Once theyâd picked up more snacks, Elio led him into one of the hangars. In the neighboring one, Glordon spotted two soldiers from the Blood Legion, Dadâs personal guard, posted outside the closed doors, dwarfing two humans clad in black to their right. Dad must be in there with Mr. President.Â
âJust so you know, birthday parties are usually funnier than⌠this.âÂ
Elio sourly gestured to a space with colorful stuff, including a carpet with rows of circles, a board with a picture of a long-eared creature, and what seemed to be toys.Â
âAre those games?âÂ
âKinda, but most of these are for little kids. A party for kids my age would have water guns, a bouncy house, and a piĂąata.âÂ
âThey look better than wrestling over a silk ball,â admitted Glordon. And thatâs without mentioning that the other larvae never wanted to share their ball with him; in fact, he remembered theyâd take his ball.Â
âStill, I hate it that the President basically turned my birthday party into a diplomatic meeting! We were supposed to have a good time!â
Glordon placed a nub on Elioâs shoulder. âIâm just happy to see you, Elio.â
âHey, Elio!âÂ
Another boy entered the hangar. He was taller than Elio; his skin was darker, and his head balder. Elioâs expression lit up, and he went to greet the newcomerâGlordonâs quills twitched uncomfortably when the human boys made a handshake similar to their own.
âYou made it!â said Elio excitedly.Â
âYeah, though we had a little trouble at the entrance. My mom had to call your aunt so theyâd let us in.â The newcomer held up a box wrapped in colorful paper. âHappy birthday!âÂ
Glordonâs ears drooped as he realized he hadnât brought Elio a present. Heâd been so preoccupied with convincing Dad to let him come that itâd completely slipped his mind.Â
Elio led the other boy closer. âGlordon, this is Bryce. Heâs a friend from school.â
âNice to meet you!â greeted Bryce. âWow, youâre bigger than I imagined.âÂ
âLikewise!â said Glordon, his quills twitching anxiously as he shook the boyâs hand.Â
Bryce glanced around. âMan, you werenât kidding when you said the President kidnapped your party.âÂ
âI know! I bet those presents arenât even for me,â Elio pointed to the table with the gifts. âThey wouldnât even let me have a bouncing house.âÂ
âWhatâs that game about?â asked Glordon, pointing at the picture with the creature.Â
âItâs pin the tail on the donkey. Itâs not complicated; you just gotta pin this,â Bryce picked a furry item and pinned it on the animalâs rear, âHere, with your eyes bandaged.âÂ
âIt sounds fun!â
âYeah, for an eight-year-oldâŚâ murmured Elio.Â
Glordon checked over the carpet with the colorful circles. âWhat is this one for?â Â
âThatâs oneâs called twister. Itâs a bit more active.âÂ
âCan we try it?âÂ
Elio shrugged. âI guess so.â
â*O*â
Once the âPresidentâ clarified that Earth doesnât have a single leaderâapparently human civilization is still divided into tribesâGrigon figured it wouldnât hurt to hear the man out. They held their âmeetingâ in an empty docking bay, as Earthâs doorways were too small for Hylurgians, and they set up a wide table there. On one side, there were people seated, likely Whitmoreâs advisors. Â
âKeep an eye on my son,â instructed Grigon to the Blood Legion. The guards clad in crimson armor bowed before the doors closed.Â
He moved over to the opposite side of the table, where three of his soldiers crouched into a seat for him, and Ukâron and Felâgur stood at his sides, eyeing their hosts critically.Â
To say that the following silence was awkward wouldâve been an understatement; Whitmoreâs council nervously whispered amongst themselves, likely discussing what to say without offending him, until Whitmore cleared his throat.
âLord Grigon, I hope youâre having a good time on our humble planet.âÂ
âNormally I wouldnât bother with such a primitive world, but my son really wanted to see his âfriendâ,â murmured Grigon.
âSo we donât have to worry about a war,â said a man in a pristine dark green uniform adorned with badges and medals. Whitmore had introduced him as a General, but he looked nothing like one; he showed no scars of past battles, and his attire didnât look like something a warrior would wear.Â
Grigon scoffed. âWar? HA! From what little Iâve seen of your technology, you puny earthlings wouldnât stand a chance against my Armada. You havenât even ventured beyond your star system!â
The âGeneralâ frowned, clearly offended, but another council member gestured him not to respond, to Grigonâs disappointment.Â
âI understand, Lord Grigon,â said Whitmore. âBut surely we could reach an agreement. Iâm sure thereâs much we can mutually learn from each other.â He quickly added. âElio mentioned your kind is fond of spicy food.âÂ
At Whitmoreâs gesture, human servants wearing white rolled in trolleys with many fruit bowls and what seemed to be dishes. Grigon sensed a tiny amount of heat from a few.
âThese are the hottest peppers and dishes our planet has to offer, your Wrath. Thereâs phaal curry, Carolina Reapers, Sichuan hot potâŚâ
As the servants, apparently cooks, explained the dishes and fruits, Felâgur picked a wrinkled berryâa phantom pepperâ, sniffed it, and gave a tentative bite.Â
âWell?â asked Grigon, somewhat curious.Â
âItâs mild, sir. I barely felt a tingle,â said Felâgur.
Intrigued, Grigon reached for a phantom pepper and plopped it into his mouth. Like his brother-in-arms said, it barely tingled his tongue. Itâs nothing compared to Hylurgâs volcanic burners.Â
âIâm not impressed,â he said earnestly.
The earthlings seemed more surprised than disappointed at his verdict. Guess their palates are less developed when it comes to heat tolerance. Regardless, Grigon decided it wouldnât hurt to try the rest of the stuffâthough Ukâron took over as his taster, given that Felâgur liked the phantom peppers and had all but claimed the bowl. To his disappointment, Earthâs âhottestâ food was mild by Hylurgian standards; to be fair, the Carolina Reapers and phaal curry were a bit hotter, but they barely tingled his tongue.Â
Grigon eyed the human general again. âYou,â he called out. âAre you truly a warrior?â
The man straightened up. âOf course!âÂ
Smirking, Grigon eyed Felâgur and made a motion with his head. His brother-in-arms understood and approached the humansâ side to place the bowl in front of the General.Â
âTaste it, then. Show me the caliber of Earth warriors.âÂ
He didnât miss the nervousness beneath the manâs serious facade. To his surprise, the man picked up a pepper and bit into it; Grigon chuckled as the humanâs face turned red, his eyes became watery, and he started to sweat, but somehow he swallowed it.Â
âP-Piece of *cough* cake! N-Nothing I canât handle!â the General said in-between coughs before reaching for a glass of water.
âNot bad. Perhaps one day Iâll let you taste Hylurgâs volcanic burners,â said Grigon.
âItâd be an honor, sir,â said Whitmore, but Grigon didnât miss the hesitation in his voice.Â
Grigon heard someone speaking to Ukâron via intercom. His lieutenant leaned down to whisper into his ear with an urgent tone.
âYour Wrath, we have a situation.âÂ
â*O*â
They were in the middle of their firstâand likely only, judging from how Glordon unintentionally ended up squashing Bryce when trying to reach for the corresponding circleâround of Twister when TĂa Olga suddenly came in.
âE-Elio, some is looking for you.â She said.
Curious, Elio headed outside, with Bryce and Glordon not far behind, toward a spot where a group of soldiers, both human and Hylurgian, had gathered around something (or someone). Somehow, he pushed through the crowd and toward the center. His eyes widened once he spotted a familiar blue shape.
âOooo?âÂ
The liquid supercomputer turned to him and passed over a Communidisk before talking. âGreetings, Ambassador SolĂs.âÂ
âWhat is that thing?â asked Bryce, intrigued.Â
âThatâs the Communiverseâs liquid supercomputer,â said Glordon.Â
âYou understand it? Iâm only hearing musical sounds.âÂ
âWhat are you doing here?â Elio asked Oooo.Â
âIâm here to confirm the coordinates of your social gathering.âÂ
Elio blinked. What did it just say?Â
He had barely processed Ooooâs words when it opened up a portal, and a group of familiar people came out.
âHello, Ambassador SolĂs!â greeted Questa.Â
âSo this is Uh-Earth. Looks nice, if primitive,â said Mira, looking around.Â
âLooks like the Hylurgians came, too,â whispered Auva.
TĂa Olgaâs superior stepped forward, clearing his throat. âExcuse me⌠Iâm Lieutenant Vazquez of the US Air Force. Do you come in peace?â
âGreetings, Lieutenant Vazquez. We mean no harm. We received the invitation to Ambassador SolĂsâ party,â explained Naos in perfect English, which seemed to surprise Vazquez and the others.Â
Glordon whispered into Elioâs ear. âDid you invite the Communiverse too?âÂ
âI didnât intend to, but the invitation must have reached them,â Elio replied. Granted, he was more than happy that theyâd showed up. If anything, they might spice up the party a bit.Â
He noticed three other Gomians following Questa, all way smaller than her, likely her children. The first, half the size of her mother, was a hot shade of pink and light yellow, like Questa, but her fronds and tail were pastel blue; the second, half the size of his older sister, was a dark navy blue with silver fronds and spots scattered throughout his back; the third, so small she might as well fit into a baseball cap, was lavender and white, and unlike her siblings, she didnât have any fronds yet.Â
âAmbassador SolĂs, these are my children Styria, Hanen, and Gerdian,â said Questa, floating aside. âSay hello, children.âÂ
âNice to meet you,â said Styria, the oldest, bowing her head.Â
âHello,â said Hanen, the second, waving a âwingâ.
The youngest, Gerdian, tilted her head in the way a six-year-old child would. âYour head is big.âÂ
âGerdian!â chided Questa gently.
Just then, Grigon came out of the hangar, looking more irritated than anything. However, he didnât even spare the Communiverse a glance and instead looked skyward as President Whitmore followed.
âWhatâs that?â shouted someone, prompting everyone to look up.
A sort of portal opened up in the sky, some good distance away from Grigonâs ship, and a second one flew out of it, but this one wasnât a Hylurgian vessel. Unlike the Karajor, it had a⌠reptilian aesthetic to it, and its colors were a variety of aqua-greens rather than black and orange.Â
âOh, itâs the Sobrekt,â said Tegmen casually.
How do you think Grigon got the Communiverse to keep his exposed worm flesh a secret from other non-Hylurgian races who may come their way? My guess is that he 'politely' asked them to, with an addendum of implied threats of violence and destruction (plus death) for good measure.
Well, the Communiverse kinda felt somewhat guilty for Glordon nearly dying, as they were the ones who sent Elio to Grigon's ship in the first place, and the Glordon clone was made with their cloning clay.
Overall, the Communiverse is a strictly neutral organization, which means they cannot take sides in intergalactic wars. In fact, one of the reasons they wouldn't accept Grigon as a member was because they thought the anti-Hylurgian factions in the Blood Wars might see this as them choosing a side and would attack them. Likewise, if they revealed the Hylurgians' secret to those factions, Grigon would see it as them choosing the opposite side, and he would finish what he started.
Bu yeah, a little bit of 'asking politely' on Grigon's part helped too.
What if the Communiverse inspired the Orbona ark through its design? (related to the Elio-WondLa crossover asks)
Pretty much, many Communiverse members contributed to the Ark's design and environment, focusing mostly on suiting it for long-term travel, and being suitable enough for the species that would board it, as well as enough space to carry flore and fauna native to their dying planets.
Given that the Communidiscs allow different alien species to communicate with each other, I wonder how it would work if a group of humans speaking different languages engaged with the aliens. Would the language a human hears an alien speak be whatever language the human speaks?
