Why yes... I do have a photo I want to share for #InternationalZebraDay. This is a Grevy’s Zebra, endangered, with just a couple thousand remaining on Earth. Thankfully organizations like the @GrevysZebraTrust are out there doing some amazing work along with other organizations to #EndExtinction! So why are they called a Grevy’s Zebra? Glad you asked. From the Grevy’s Zebra Trust’s web site: “ What's the difference Habitat and Diet Social system Reproduction ABOUT GREVY'S ZEBRA Ears standing to full attention, neck arched, muscles tensed, 450kg of alert zebra ready for action. Watch a Grevy's zebra adult male presiding over his territory and one begins to understand the majesty of this species. Indeed in 1882, Menelik II, Emperor of Abyssinia (now Ethiopia), thought the zebra was so regal that he presented one as a gift to the President of France, Jules Grévy. And so the name Grevy's zebra was coined.” #conservation #ecology #communityconservation #blackandwhite #worktogether (at Kenya)
