So bots are really annoying, especially when you start gaining members. So, here are some tips to dealing with them.

-keep an eye out for when your community jumps in numbers (like 5-30) in like a day after an already steady incline. It could be bots noticing a growing community and hopping in.

-have mods! Can't go wrong getting some help

-check your members list for bots, they can be easy to find. Here's some tips

-check accounts with no profile pictures or very stale selfie pfps. Not all r gonna be bots but it is a good place to start

-usernames that are real names, especially first and last name combos, very random words, in a very ai generated or recommended username way.

-no content on page, no reposts og posts, nothin

-check if they've posted before. Not everyone In a community posts so only check this on suspects.

-when in doubt, dm!

Back to standard advice

-check your community often, duh! You owe it to your members

-thank and appreciate any members who help, but try not to rely on them to be like mods for you, alerting you when bots show up

-if it gets bad, put your community on invite only, just for a bit. It sucks cuz that means you will get less members for a while but it helps dissuade bots, often from ever returning.

OMFU was never intended to be an individual's blog but a community. As much as Mod and her Russian partner-in-crime like to run things around here, there is room for more!

For the occasional contributor, our submission box is always open. All submissions go into the queue.

For anyone who would like to become a more frequent contributor, membership in the community is open to anyone who will promise to queue most of their posts and not to post personal stuff if they can help it (we all do it by accident from time to time, especially Mod oops, but it will always be deleted if she notices.) Mod needs an email address to invite a new member, so send that by fan mail if you're interested.
