Skulduggery: devious behavior

If there was one thing Mordenna liked about his interactions with Lily, it was the occasional mischief he got up to.

He usually didn’t play tricks on Lily for the hell of it–all of his pranks were in “revenge,” of sorts. Lily made a statement about him being unable to do something and he was unable to disprove it on the spot? A prank for later it was. Such was the circumstances of his current activity… rearranging her tool box.

Poor girl hadn’t even an inkling that she should lock it once he was on this ship–and he supposed that was up to trust. He knew he could only do this once before she wised up and locked it up, so he had to do this right. Wrenches in the bottom drawer except for one, slid underneath the tool box. Screwdrivers all jumbled up. Her favorite wrench… suspiciously untouched. He’d leave that alone. Mordenna didn’t even know why she had a carjack in there  but it was being used to ever so slightly tilt the whole  box.

Finally, the coup de grace. Mordenna plucked out one of her socket wrenches and stuffed it in his jacket pocket. She could organize the whole thing again, she could fix what was made wrong. But could she find something lost when it was on his person? Well, time would answer that one. Mordenna didn’t have too much of it left–this was all done during one of her rare coffee breaks, considering SYN was out of commission and Julian wouldn’t fetch so much as the paper.

Making sure the socket wrench was secure, Mordenna disengaged from the abused tool drawer, scuttling back and up the vents, quietly closing the latch behind him. There, perched comfortably, he waited.

His patience was quickly rewarded as he heard the door slide open–Lily, undoubtedly–tracking her footsteps by sound as she went over to her workbench, set something ceramic and full down, and then over to the toolbox. Mordenna listened as one of the drawers slid open… and then there was a heavy silence.

“MORDENNA.”

11. Bad or petty habits

Eliza’s absolute worst habit is just forgetting to take care of herself. I don’t mean physically--her military background would strangle her alive--but perhaps mentally. Eliza constantly puts herself second to everything else that’s going on; someone else’s problems are always more important than hers, and the sooner she deals with that, the better... but she never takes time for herself. About the most she gives herself is five minutes of crying and self-pity after nightmares and sleep paralysis, and then she’s done.

22. People who’ve influenced them greatly

Funnily enough... Argus. Eliza was a very, very different person, all through her military tenure right up to and including First Contact, but about the only people alive who even know she was essentially a different person are Bradford... and the Elders. The happy, joking Eliza portrayed in SFTD? She wasn’t always that way, and for  reason to be revealed, Argus is partly to blame.

4. Best places to kiss on their body

If you wanna be sensual? Jax’s pecs because, holy shit. Those are some juicy tiddies muscles. Anywhere else that’s nicely muscled is a good plus too, especially his arms.

Headcanon A:  realistic

The Elders genetically modified her a little bit to stave off muscle atrophy (and aging) while she was in the Stasis Suit, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t basically had to get used to doing anything again.

Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious

I’ve discussed this with you but the woman does NOT pick up on any of her own innuendos or accidental flirting. She’s basically teasing half of the cast at any given point and she thinks everyone’s just being weird.

Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends

While Eliza didn’t have a spouse or kids, she left a lot of friends that weren’t Bradford behind. All of them are dead by now, having either perished in the initial attacks or captured by ADVENT for information on her.

Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own.

Basically anything about her taking in the Chosen. You can pry this story from my cold, dead hands!

The Hunter

Headcanon A:  realistic

The Hunter’s eyes can dilate and constrict to quite frankly ridiculous degrees, in order to pick up light and focus in any situation. He can take conscious control over it if he needs.

Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious

The Hunter has purposely built guns wrong. Mostly to solve problems about what he’s working with when the Elders allow it or to demonstrate a point, but sometimes just to see them catastrophically fail. He deems it hilarious.

Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends

Mordenna’s let himself die on purpose a number of times, and in a variety of ways. It only ever comes at his lowest points and he immediately loathes himself for doing it, calling himself pathetic.

If “drawing tactical info and occasionally musing about” is “good terms” than this redemption arc stuff may be easier than I thought, thank god

Yeah like, I’d prefer an option in game that, after you destroy their sarcophagus, you have the option of capturing them. It’s HILARIOUSLY RISKY getting into range to knock them out (and for the Warlock you would just need to resort to melee knockouts, you might be able to finagle a psionic knockout with the others), and it’s likely to get harder with each Chosen you do it on (maybe there’s multiple ways to go about it and the Elders protect the remaining Chosen against that method) but provided you eliminate any other hostile in the chamber, you’d be able to capture them. From there, I imagine you could...

1) Attempt interrogation. This would require some Colonel level soldiers, with one of them belonging to the faction the Chosen was weak against. Without a potential upgrade to WHEREVER you’re housing them (side note: probably would need a dedicated facility for the Chosen), they’ve got a chance of being injured if the Chosen manages to lash out. Success depends on various stats of the soldiers used and a potential room upgrade. If successful, you’ll get a fairly large bounty of intel. Also, after the first interrogation, you get the ability to research their weapons, but doing any interrogations locks option three.

2) Just kill the poor bastard. This will also give you their weapons, but unless you’ve done some interrogating, why would you go through the effort of capturing them?

3) Provided you haven’t interrogated them at all and some time has passed, the option to attempt to sway them over to your side is opened. Supposedly the Commander themselves would be involved in this. Doing so costs Supplies and Intel for each attempt, as a representative of the Commander’s lost time talking to them. Perhaps a potential risk if you don’t have a spare Engineer/Scientist staffed is the Chosen lashing out at the Commander, disabling your ability to basically do ANYTHING for a number of days as the Commander recovers. Perhaps there could be some risk/reward--I imagine keeping the Chosen from harming the Commander means restraining them, and that’s not too conducive to friendly talks, so it’d take longer. To balance it out, the more attempts you make, the less likely the Chosen is to lash out. Certain Chosen will take longer to sway--with the Hunter being the easiest and the Warlock being the hardest. You’d basically be making several, psuedo-random (as in, base chance that keeps getting higher the number of times you fail, like 15 + n - b, where n is the number of attempts you’ve made thus far and b is the penalty for having them restrained) attempts to convince them. If/when you do, you unlock them as a soldier, basically a heroic unit in line with the faction heroes.

Sure #3 would take a long time and be quite costly but at the end, having the Chosen working for you would be a fantastic reward. Hell, it beats stuffing and mounting them.

I took the liberty of reading the guy’s criticism and seniority / popular or not, North’s point of given it when it’s asked for stands. One might argue that by publishing it on the Internet makes it available to criticism, but I think there’s a certain, je ne sais quoi to it: it’s just polite to ask first. Not to say it should be disregarded, maybe some points may be useful for future projects but it’s YOUR project, ideas, and story. And most of his points seem arbitary when considering that everyone’s take on a character is going to be different, so criticisms against Eliza or the Hunter are moot

He did seem to admit they were subjective--I’ve kind of stopped looking at the review so I don’t get absorbed picking it apart so I can actually work.

I was fully expecting criticism when I was throwing this thing out to the internet, but to be fair, not THAT intensely.

I don’t really want to admit this, but the more I think about it... the more it seems kind of, iunno, douche-y? Like, perhaps not intended, but to look over my profile (assuming he did), look at my past works, and then drop a review like that on my head seems short-sighted in some manner. I’m definitely not going to respond to it (which is going to be potentially interesting in the long run) and I’m trying to not let it get in the way of my writing too much but it’s a thing that exists!
