When End of Dragons came out, I kept a log of my thoughts and reactions as my husband and I played through the story and explored the maps. I rediscovered those notes recently and had a lot of fun reading through them. So I decided to do the same thing as we set off for Castora and Visions of Eternity with Bertie and my husband’s newest character, Gwynn.Â
Prologue: On the Sly
Booted up the expansion and immediately got sidetracked by elite specs. I love having full map completion and being able to just immediately fully train the whole thing. Amalgam is interesting but Bertie is and will always be a Scrapper so I didn’t get distracted for long.Â
I really really loved going to talk to an NPC connected to the elite spec. It always ties the world building and mechanics together in a way that gets my brain spinning. I especially love the gossip about the Snaff Prize I got from the Amalgam guy; apparently someone from Synergetics almost always wins and he was the first person from Dynamics to win in AGES. Bertie is Dynamics so I wonder if him winning back in base game was the last time that happened.
I wonder why Synergetics wins so much. Snaff was a golemancer and to my mind Synergetics focuses on more abstract things, not mechanical engineering. How often does Statics win? Is it more a political thing than an academic thing? I have questions, Anet.Â
Story time! I will admit, I already skimmed the majority of the plot wiki pages so I already kind of know what happens but seeing it happen is always very different.
Nice to see Sayida again. She was never a character I thought about a lot but she is cool. And I love hearing about the politics of Lion’s Arch and Tyria as a whole, I adore getting to see the world change and grow. I honestly have no idea who would win the new ninth seat: Gnashblade or Chul-Moo. I just know that’s not a fight I wanna be involved with.
Heyyyy Canach. I still have a lot of complicated feelings about his character/writing since IBS but I will at least say Matt Mercer’s version of his voice is getting better. It still sounds strange but I’m getting used to it and it’s fucking HARD to repalce a previous VA so no shade. The fact that he's decided to become a Car Guy as his new hobby is honestly hilarious to me. How many miles to the gallon does it get, my guy?
Not gonna lie, I do not think about Lawson at all. I kinda forget that he exists. Inquest are up to something weird. Moving on.
I’m really intrigued by Ludo’s line about cuts to the colleges. The colleges are the foundation of asura culture and society and the fact that money is being pulled from them seems like a sign that something is very wrong. I mean beyond the obvious political corruption. The asura by which I mean the Council are seriously not handling Cantha’s re-introduction and Tyria’s globalization well at alllll are they?

Word came through the pipeline that the ongoing construction of Explorer’s Anchorage at the center of the galaxy had been hampered by... “repeated lapses in security.” Apparently, a Henry Class Bulk Carrier was even ambushed and disabled en-route to the site. Naturally, with such a high-profile project on the line, the powers that be wanted the best to sort it out.Â
Lucky for them, we were already in the neighborhood.Â

The Star Trek version of Rick Rolling someone is just hiding a link to "Faith of the Heart" somewhere and watching everyone go absolutely feral either in pure rage or sheer delight
Also this... Can we bring this up? The look on McCoy's face when Spock calls him "Bones." He just stops, no more fighting, no more arguing, no more yelling, no more struggling to stay on his feet and clear headed, and then he just falls. It literally knocks him over and everything hits him at once. And Spock, touch telepath that he is, is so careful not to grab Bones' skin and violate that barrier as he catches him. It could have stopped there but no, McCoy is strong enough a few minutes later to stand with the help of the chair, but Spock just stays put for a second, letting Bones regain his bearings... And anyway...
I am headcannoning Admiral Forrest with one of those kindly old grandmas who is always baking and thinks Soval is "adorable" and "precious" and has accidentally gotten him drunk at least once, much to Soval's displeasure.
