A belated little fat Pock Friday
Sorry for not uploading in a while
I have the solution to the AOS Beastie Boys paradox!
What if Spock's mom was a beastie boy fan? We know in-universe the Beastie Boys are considered "classical music" and that some people (Kirk) still listen to their music. What if "pinch on the neck from Mr. Spock" was a nonsense lyric originally, then hundreds of years later, Amanda Greyson is pregnant and listening to the Beastie Boys and decides "you know what, that lyric matches Vulcan naming traditions pretty well!" Que Sarek being sat down and told by a highly amused Amanda that their child is going to be named Spock and that's final.
This is my new favorite headcanon
This thing I've been seeing about Spock's name only makes him more tragic to me. You love your spouse so much, to the point where you're like 'lets be the first to ever make a half Vulcan half human child, we will overcome the odds, this child will be half of me and half of you and be so perfect.'
But even though Spock is named for such, he still gets those expectations placed on him, to make a choice between human and vulcan when he shouldn't have to, when his very core, down to his name isn't simply human or vulcan, he's both and neither and so much more.
they're so cute together and I love them so much

Amanda and Her Husband
Inspired by Mitski's "Me and My Husband"
I love Amanda and Sarek so much. I feel like legit sad thinking about how Amanda died psychically reaching out to him, but he was too far. I also fully think about their relationship before having Spock.
Like, I think about Amanda at an embassy event and just unsure of what to do. She is so self assured and confident, but she somehow is standing alone for a moment in the corner. Sarek whisked away to some conversation. So, she looks around this room, not really approached by anyone, she thinks about all the ways moving to Vulcan made her miss home. She missed the familiarity and cooler conditions. She remembers watching Earth shrink in her vision through her ship window. She thinks about running in the park with her mom.
She thinks about meeting Sarek on his walk to work and striking up conversation with the young diplomat on the streets of New York City. I imagine she was a teacher in the city, who wanted to see if he would visit her school while on Earth. Now, she is in a formal Vulcan robe, talking to no one.
Her stomach as it sinks in this place, she begins to remember how hard it was moving away from home, only for Sarek to travel so much for work. She thinks about how much she has grown to despise the so called Vulcan logic, and the way she felt at a deficit despite her education, many treated her as if her humanity stopped her from being logical. But, she breaths in, tries to cool down.
She looks up from the glass in her hand and sees Sarek returning and he holds up his hand to her, extending two fingers waiting for hers to meet his. This gesture while a bit shocking as public displays of affection go on Vulcan, she begins to ease. They are still somewhat newly weds and begins to slowly make her way to him. She smiles at the thought of him so patiently waiting for her not making any face to rush her, just still, just lovingly wanting her to touch him.
As she walks, she remembers how Sarek was much more illogical than he let on to anyone. The way he doted on her and did and said things any human partner would, never once claimed it was illogical to constantly remind her how he felt about her.
As she reaches him, she watches his eyebrow raise, a Vulcan tell she has begun to see the nuances in. She can note the tilt of his head that welcomes her embrace. His slight push of his fingers into hers tells her he finds her presence comforting. She can imagine his argument, "It is logical to greet you this way. As a human, your need to be recognized as my wife is important to you. I would be undermining you to treat you the way any Vulcan would treat a Vulcan wife. I am accommodating you for the benefit of our relationship." Though she believes that Vulcans do feel, they are just shy about it, and she knows he feels great affection for her, and derives happiness from her and from reaching out to her this way, and not simply considering this touch as a means to an end.
Her marriage to the Vulcan Ambassador has its challenges. She selfishly enjoys the surprised eyebrow quirks of the other Vulcans in the room as Sarek does not end their hand kiss. But, she knows she is different, she can feel them not quite look at her directly, opting to speak only to her husband. She knows this dinner party will end, they will have two days together until he leaves again for a distant political meeting that requires him. She feels the distance, and for a brief moment she remembers her life will end maybe a hundred years before his. She thinks of how long he will wait before marring again.
Amanda Grayson will always be human. She will have a son and raise him on a planet that does not accept either of them completely. She will feel his resentment towards her and Sarek grow. She will watch her husband shun and ignore Spock. Her heart will break for both of them. Captain Kirk will land a Klingon vessel on Vulcan and bring news of her son's death. Her husband will meld with this man to find Spock's Katra. She will see her son returned to life, and have to re-learn who he is, and what he is. She will see Sarek gently nod his approval of Kirk's "friendship" with Spock.
I'd like to say Amanda is fully happy, but she will die having seen them locked in disagreement. She will watch her son throw himself into danger, but not have the heart to bend a rule to save his father's life. She will watch Sarek walk out of her bedroom as she lay dying. She will feel his presence in their bonded minds drift out of reach. She will forget herself and call out to him, holding her sons hand, so alone, facing death without peace and without knowing the sadness and illogical sentimentality her Vulcan family will feel sat in her garden once she is gone.
Whatever family she left on Earth, I hope they talked. I hope in her empty home she made friends. I hope she took care of Spock's sehlat after he left for Starfleet. I hope she continued to teach. I hope her need for love and community were not left unfilled by the life she led. From the twinkle in Sarek's eyes, each time she was near, I hope she knew love.
This is definitely not canon in the slightest but I just love Dadmiral Pike thoughts, and the fact that Pike must hate Sarek's ass.
How can that pain in the ass ambassador who he has to deal with so often have a kid with eyes like the stars and treat him like that? How dare he do that to Spock, who tries so hard, who's so smart and who Pike believes in so much (I know Sarek tries his best in his own way, but you have to admit Sarek and Amanda fucked Spock up.)
Pike will see anyone with daddy issues and want to take them into his nest like a bird (looking at you as well Jimmy.)
HEAR ME OUT
What about an Amanda/Sarek fic inspired by Pride and Prejudice????
Oh my goodness I just thought of the whole entire story while driving but I need to find the energy to write (as well do my other WIPs).
But I can totally see Amanda as a witty, confident, Lizzy-type girl. When she meets Sarek she thinks he’s such a pompous ass. And sarek is so up himself he thinks she’s barely “tolerable”.
Also, Amanda totally has a PhD and she’s more educated than Sarek hehehe
Ohhhhh I NEED to write this out so I don’t forget the idea
