ugh i'm trying to find a picture to share with the class but all that shows up is batman killing joker in [comic i won't be disclosing because of spoiler reasons] (sus comic). like that didn't even happen why are people freaking out. like i wish he'd put that freakshow bitch in the grave but no way is he going to in any way that matters. sorry i love the joker i just also want him dead.

YEAH ofc i can!!! as a fellow brown wlw it’s always been really off to me too and to a lot of other people i’ve talked to about it.

First of all, the entire Betsy / Kwannon storyline is so disturbing on so many levels as an Asian woman. I wrote a rundown of the whole issue here but there’s a lot I didn’t mention there too. One thing that always stood out in particular to me is that Betsy wore fairly conservative clothes before she swapped bodies and then immediately started wearing the most sexualized outfits when she had an Asian body. He fetishized Asian bodies. This isn’t the only time he’s pulled the body swap bullshit either – in his Fantastic Four run, Sue, Johnny, and Ben also swapped bodies with characters of color.

He’s regarded well in (white) wlw circles as he wrote f/f subtext into a lot of his books, particularly in Excalibur with Kitty Pryde and Rachel Grey. What a lot of people seem not to realize, however, is that he wrote f/f subtext because he enjoys playing with “abnormal” or “controversial” relationships. He wrote Rachel & Kitty at the same time he wrote Kurt Wagner in a relationship with his adopted sister, Amanda Sefton, and at the same time he wrote Nate Grey in a relationship with Maddie Pryor, the clone of his alternate universe mother. 

His New Mutants run was good in a lot of ways but there were also glaring flaws with pretty much everything related to race. Dani Moonstar was given a “spiritual connection” with all animals even though that has absolutely jackshit to do with her other powers, simply because she was Cheyenne. There was also Amara’s whole Nova Roma mess and when she was in brownface for a while and that was never addressed or criticized. There was also SO much bullshit with Xi’an and her backstory and her culture that was just handwaved because no one wanted to hire a consultant or even do the bare minimum research.

The way he wrote Kitty Pryde in God Loves, Man Kills…it basically screamed that he wanted an excuse to have a white character say the n-word. 

The last thing I’m going to talk about is how he wrote Ororo. Why was she naked all the time? Why was she treated so poorly by every other character in the comics she appeared in? Why in god’s name did Jean think Ororo was her SLAVE during Dark Phoenix? 

other than that....i loved this issue? like suzie (who yes is still being drawn to such exaggerated features to mock fat women which is disgusting) and her sisters being in on jason’s scheme was really cool, miguel was awesome, the flashback was really touching

jason being That Bitch was, dare i say iconic? i love that his bitch UTRH personality is returning. when he raised his hands for bruce to cuff him then was like “oh wait....” and smirked and explained why he had the upper hand? i screamed. i loooooove it. the pretty women reference? we adore it. when he was like “so take me to arkham. wouldn’t it be a riot if i got the cell next to the joker?” or whatever was kind of sad but we love this bitch. “i’m an only child...” also made me sad but i understand that’s jason’s mindset rn so im okay with it
