hi! Not so long ago I found your fic titled Silhouette and I'm completly blown away by it! I'm currently on chapter 7 and I love the way you wrote Clint and Bucky and their relationship and relationships with Nat and Steve so much!!! (Also, they kissed!!! AAAA!!!) I discovered there's going to be an exchange on ao3 for the fanart and fanfic based on other fanworks and wanted to ask, if I could nominate your fic as one of the canons for it? I saw on your profile you're ok with fanart and (1/2)
a lot of other works based on your fics, and wanted to ask how do you feel about fanfics based on them, as I wasn't able to find specific information about them on your ao3 profile and the rule for nominating fanworks is that the author is comfortable with both types of works based on them (the event's community on dw is called recursiveexchange). Go for it! Absolutely okay with that.
In a weird way, I tend to think of my fanworks as becoming sort of community property after I fling them out into the etherverse. I like to be credited and I don’t want people claiming they wrote/drew them, but they belong to the readers as well, in a way. In fact, I tend to think like that about most things I create. I just sort of throw them at people and run away. Heh. Like if I draw a picture for someone, then sure, I drew it and I don’t want someone to say they did, but if I give it to them it’s up to them if they hang it on a wall or get it turned into a tattoo... or tear it up and throw it away (that last one would make me cry, but, it is still theirs at that point). I don’t know if I’m making the point I want to make... I think I got distracted.
Seriously, though I am 100% okay with that. In fact I am enthusiastic about that. I’m incredibly flattered that you liked Silhouette enough to think of it. Thank you! I’m really happy you enjoyed it.
Part of what I love about fandom is watching things develop as people pick up ideas and change them around to create new things with them. Everyone takes on tropes in a different way. Someone can be inspired by a dozen different ideas in different fics and combine them into something new and amazing.
That’s one of the reasons that I set in motion the Winterhawk Remix event (which will be coming soon to a tumblr near you). Fandom is about living stories, and that exchange looks like a great way to celebrate that.
