Merlin Rewatch: s01e12 - The Labyrinth of Gedref
Started this one with dinner again, so we're most of the way through. A few notes:
It's never occurred to me before, but why did Arthur shoot the unicorn. It's horse shaped. Why not... Try to tame it and ride it into battle? I can't imagine they often hunt horses. Although... Horse meat, I suppose. But the kudos of being the prince who rides a unicorn would surely be immense. Like, this boy is dumb.
Second, Anhora's teleporting is such an extra thing to do. Like he will not finish a sentence without randomly blinking over to somewhere else. It's giving batman villain in the best way.
Third, you're telling me Merlin - who grew up in Ealdor, a farmer entirely dependent on the weather and the land - has never had to eat rat before? Really? That boy has eaten rat. Or if he hasn't, he understands completely that when you're hungry you eat whatever the fuck you have to.
Oh look, it's the hedge maze from the books/films we don't talk about. The music is really putting in the work here to make running past foliage ✨dramatic✨. Those evil, evil hedges.
Possibly Arthur's best moment in the entire show with that goblet. "You know me, Merlin: I never listen to you." A+ No notes. Give that man a crown. Just yes. This is the Arthur we want. This is the Arthur we believe in.
How tf does that unicorn see through its fringe?

Thought my hair was tickling my neck. Looked in the mirror and a massive fucking spider was running around my throat. I'm not even arachnophobic, but I'll admit I screamed and flailed. That's one way to wake up in the morning.

The secret to always having things go according to plan is to have multiple mutually exclusive plans which between them encompass the entire space of possible outcomes. That way, no matter what happens, it will be according to a plan.

Merlin rewatch: s01e10 - The Moment of Truth
I watched most of this while eating dinner, so we're already at the battle.
But dammit are they magic-revealbaiting with this one. AND queerbaiting. It's fascinating really. Did they already know at this point that the magic wouldn't be revealed until the last ever episode? Did they realise how gay it would seem?
I have so far counted like 6 moments at which Arthur could have learnt about Merlin's magic.
Also, Will, I love you. You also deserved better. Excellent rugby tackle of a man off a horse. Which: the BBC got so many horses for this episode. I've counted 6 in one shot. That's the entire budget gone.
Also, why a tornado, Merlin? There were far better ways to do it. Tornado is going to hurt everyone. You have telekinesis. Your magic is pretty much anything you want it to be.
Will. Best boy. Merlin, idiot. Could have stopped that arrow.
Also Will's accent is the same as Andrew Lee Potts, aka Hatter from Syfy's Alice, so that adds extra love from me. I rewatched the other day. Such Amazing Nonsense.
Arthur: "you shouldn't have kept this from me".
And what would you have done? That's his best friend. You can't just say that and not offer an assurance that you wouldn't have done anything.
Aww, Hunith.
"When the time is right, the truth will be known." You mean when Arthur's dying? Is that when you mean, Hunith? Is that when you mean?
Still bitter.
Sometimes on this site you stumble into a thread where there are terrible people on both sides, tearing each other to shreds, and the only thing you can do is block them all, back button tf out of there and feel grateful that your enemies are currently occupied.
The enemy of your enemy is not always your friend. Sometimes they're just a convenient distraction so you can have a bit of peace and quiet.
Rewatching the original "The Little Mermaid" animated movie while working on something else... I can't quite recall at the moment (early into it atm) if this movie ever establishes Eric as the heir of the throne of his kingdom.
I think it'd be really funny if Eric was actually a younger brother. So, like, maybe he's a duke, actually, but he still gets the title of Prince. Travels the sea a lot, unlike a more landlocked heir. Hanging out at this summer seaside palace while the rest of the family is elsewhere for some reason.
Like, imagine Eric's parents and older brother and maybe sister-in-law and niblings getting that letter at the end of this movie. Nearly drowned. Miraculously washed ashore. Fell in love with a mysterious voice and then a mute girl. Got enchanted by a shape-shifting sea witch and nearly married her. Killed the sea witch after she turned into a giant. Married the aforementioned girl who turned out to be the beloved youngest daughter of the mythical King Triton instead and have now established a strong alliance with the merpeople. Wild summer! Wish you were here!

i think abt anne rice’s answer to “what are your work habits for a novel?” probably every single day
Love that all the hydrangeas I passed on my walk today are faded enough, and clearly in mixed acidic/alkaline soil so they're all supporting trans pride. Very appropriate.
Heard a weird crackling noise and turned round to see a gigantic moth crawling over my bookcase... Eh... Guess I have a housemate now. Moths don't eat books, do they?
Looked it up and apparently moth larvae do eat paper, so I gently evicted my new tenant. It pretended to be dead until I threw it out the window at which point it experienced a magical resurrection. I hope it finds somewhere else cool to go where there are no books at risk.

You ever just do something the wrong way multiple times and get really annoyed by how bad things turn out. And then, right on the last time you need to do the thing, you realise exactly what you've been doing wrong and suddenly the task is simple and everything works right but it's the last time you'll need to do it?
Which is all to say that if I'd just used the other attachment on the airbed pump, my arse wouldn't have been practically on the floor for the last four nights and I wouldn't have pissed off my neighbours by spending approximately three hours trying desperately to use the loudest pump in the goddam world to blow it up and wondering why it wasn't getting firmer.
Goddammit.
But... Like.... Why does the rubbish attachment that only blows it up halfway exist? What purpose does it serve? Who wants to sleep so sunken into the mattress that you have to roll out in the morning?
What Tumblr theme do you use?
Default blue.
Dark.
Other.
For research purposes.
Oh, I clicked wrong because I forgot this isn't the default any more. I use classic blue because the lower contrast is easier on my eyes.
