Guru // Coast Modern (Comets We Fall Remix)
This song is a trip - no literally a trip. I feel it taking me from coast to city, beach jam to warehouse party, daytime roadtrip to crazy tearing-up-the-night rager. LA producer Comets We Fall has popped in the original reggae slow burn beat into a galaxy mixer, sprinkled some tinkling pixie dust and shot out these cosmic cannonballs in the chorus that are absolutely unreal. The result is some bit dubsteppy, some bit trancey, some bit hip-hoppy, every bit authentic. I’ve never heard anything quite like it - vocals and composition are top-notch from Coast Modern, but production in this remix has made it, in my books, completely off the charts.
Now about those lyrics -
Guru is about faking it till you make it with this girl you want to impress Guru is the new ‘bae’, except now you put your girl on a pedestal Guru is who you call when you need to get out/some direction
And boy, do we know how that feels. Basically, this song is simultaneously about letting go and chilling out as Guru instructs. We’ve sure missed Coast Modern since their Hollow Life track, which is in a similar vein of dealing with #millenniallifeproblems. Refresh your memory here and check out their North American tour dates (with Temper Trap).
