#comet?

what the fuck is this?

So a couple of weeks ago, I saw what looked like a massive comet. I was looking right at it, too. Like, no doubt about it. There was something there. It kind of looked like a firework, but I was outside, so I should have heard it. I told my mom and a couple friends. This was around 10:00-11:00 at night.

Yesterday, at 9:45 p.m., my dad saw what he described as looking like “a falling, burning jet engine, or a firework.” We talked, and I’m pretty sure it was the same thing. 

In both cases, it seemed to disappear before hitting the ground. Now, neither of us believe in aliens or whatever, so I’m inclined to think it was some sort of flare. But it was pretty high up in the air, and as far as I know, there are no military related things in this area. We were looking in opposite directions, on opposite sides of town when we saw them. I live in Illinois.
