Wanna know something I just realized is nonsense?
The fact that they play ads on DVDs before you can watch the movie. Like, what the hell is up with that? I never thought anything of it until just now, but it makes no sense for you to have to watch ads before you can have access to the content you paid for. It never struck me how ass backward it is because I’m so used to it. Movies have always been like this; I grew up with VHS, so I just figured ads were part of the movie-watching experience. I’d be a little annoyed at how you had to fast forward through them, and when DVD came along I thought it was so useful that you could skip them entirely, but the fact that they’re built into the disc and you have to skip them every single time is annoying as all get out. Imagine if streaming services made you watch four or five “you can skip this ad in 5 seconds” before every single movie? Imagine if streaming services had ad breaks within the movies themselves?
