Friday night theatre
Tonight, I am going with some friends to the festival featuring a play. We call the place we hold plays a theatron. We are going to see a comedy play that has been all the rage in the community these past few weeks. The theatre can fit thousands of people as the infrastructure was quite large and it always amazes me how they get the sound to travel up towards the highest seats in the place. On the way inside you can see merchants selling food and other items you usually see at festivals and such. You can see people buzzing with excitement just as they had been days before. The festival is in honor of the god Dionysus, who is the god of theatre, but I can imagine you put that together yourself. The actors wore masks and although there are only a few people preforming, they always do a good job with the roles they are given. There is three parts to a comedy play, the parados and the agon. The parados is where they come in and sing songs and dance, they usually wear crazy costumes to fit the theme and to tie it all in together, the play is usually named after the chorus. The second part of the play is the agon, the actors have witty conversations and build up the plot and even include some improvisation. That by far is the funniest part of the play. The final piece of the play is the parabasis where they are starting to end things with another fun song and dance routine. As we all know all the actors are male and women are not allowed to attend. The night was fun and a good end to my week, we all like to wind down with a few friends and have drinks to end a good night.
