My Obsession Becomes Educational
My live-tweeting obsession began over the summer after a marketing meeting I had through my internship where I was introduced to a new app called Viggle. It was mentioned in passing as the app that rewards people for watching television, which I do an insane amount of, so I knew I had to try it out. After I "checked in" to my first show by allowing the app to listen to my t.v. (creepy) I was given the option to "share" my check in on social media. When I decided to share my "check-in" on Twitter, the app formulates a tweet telling your followers what you're watching, and this is when I was formally introduced to the "official hashtag."
From then on I became obsessed with sharing my every thought about every show I was watching, even prompting complaints from some of my followers.
Beginning this project was difficult because with so many aspects of social media and television, it was difficult to narrow our focus to one, if you will, thesis statement. My partner, Jose Moreno, and I decided to focus on how social media has changed the way people watch television.
#SMTV from Joel Raneri
One of the most important aspects of this presentation was interviewing experts in the field of social media and television. My most accomplished interviewees was Alex Iskold, the CEO and Founder of GetGlue, one of the check-in apps we focused on.
One of my favorite part of preparing this presentation was choosing different screen shots from some of my favorite shows using social media. Anyone who follows me on Twitter, knows there is no stopping me when it comes to live-tweeting my favorite shows, and especially live events, another topic we covered.
Below you can see a Storify of our presentation as well as some awesome analytics among other things (Like a picture of the Google+ Hangout our team did with DR4WARD and Adelyn Biedenbach!)
