For this color walk exercise I spent my hour walking around the hiking trails behind my apartment. I often go through these hiking trails but this was the first time I actually paid attention to the colors around me. The contrast of different colors, and different shades of the same color really caught my eye this time during my walk. Weirdly, I felt more present and more intune to the world/colors around me.
I tend to gravitate towards bright colors because they just always catch my eye, although the reason why they are so eye-catching is because of the contrast behind or surrounding the color. My favorite thing about bright colors is they add a little excitement to my surroundings. It's always nice to see a pop of blue or green on a rainy gray sky type of day.
Not only do these bright colors add a pop of color into life, but they also are useful for signs such as warnings or directions. On my walk there were bright colored symbols on trees to represent what path you are on. The color of the symbols match the color of the name of the trail you are on. So not only are colors great to look at, they also are useful in our everyday lives.
While concluding my walk I realized I had witnessed a symbolic transition of colors throughout my entire walk. The green, yellow, and a brownish color fading to gray colors on tree and grass are symbolic to their transitioning to death or the story of their life. The green describes life and healthiness, then it transitions to a yellow brownish color describing a slowing or decaying, lastly the brownish/grayish colors describe death or weakness.
After realizing this symbolic transition I noticed I felt more emotionally connected to the colors. Such as when you go to a doctors office and they have a chart of smiles/frowns transitioning from green to red. You emotionally describe how you feel with these colors on the chart. Same as I did with the colors of nature. From the colors I saw I could recognize the transitioning from the colors of life to death which helped me describe an emotional feeling.
Thus leading me to conclude my walk and story I created from just seeing a transition in colors.
I would highly suggest just taking an hour or even 15 mins out of your day to just walk around and actually notice colors and their beauty/purpose.
