14. Unpopular opinion about your fandom?

this happens in literally every fandom i’ve been in but elitism in ship opinions is just so....annoying. people will be like “if you ship this m/m pair but not this m/f pair with the same dynamic you’re fetishizing m/m” like. you’re assuming that another person considers those two ships to have the same dynamics....when it’s likely they are probably seeing something else in it than you are. (yes i’m subtweeting a very specific post for this particular salt)

like gee! it’s almost as though everyone comes at things with a different percolation of background, identity, and life experience that causes them to read different things in between the lines of fiction! and no one interpretation is more “right” than another! Not to mention this weird pushback on people who ship m/m or f/f couples “instead” of m/f. like. it’s not that deep. it’s cartoons kissing. and sometimes especially those of us who are queer just. relate more to m/m or f/f than to m/f, or we read it differently. 

just!!! acknowledge that people can and do have different perfectly valid interpretations of media, especially relationships!! It’s ok and it’s not hard!! one person’s sandbox doesn’t deny you yours!

18. Does not shipping something ‘popular’ mean you’re in denial and/or biased?

again! it’s all about interpretation! it’s all about bringing your own viewpoint to the table! the transformative power of fiction is the fact that no two people will EVER have the same experience, EVER have the same ideas about the same fictional moment! Where I might read incredibly strong platonic friendship, someone else might read sexual tension -- and both are perfectly valid!  It’s not about denial or bias -- it’s about what YOU, YOURSELF, have brought to and mixed in with your experience of the media.

19. What is the one thing you hate most about your fandom?

lol i feel like i talked about it already in both of these questions. it’s just. the idea that there’s only one valid interpretation. the idea that if you don’t read a dynamic the same way as everyone else you’re just “stupid.”

like fucking listen i am at least 20k in debt to get this stupid piece of paper called a Bachelor’s Degree but it DOES give me the right to tell you that there’s no such thing as a single “one true interpretation” of a medium and if you insist that anyone who doesn’t ship your ship is just “dumb” LET ME TELL YOU....i have a degree that gives me permission to tell you that YOU are the dumb one
