From Filipino immigrant elders of the 1920s to @ucsc’s #caucusforfilipinoconsciousness (CFFC) 1973, to today’s Bayanihan (once FSA), legacies live. As we joined your circle - inspired by UCSC 2018 grads’ stories - sharing stories came full circle for us: #BenMenor (Merrill, ‘74), @evelyncasuga (Merrill, ‘76) and for me (the youngest ;). Know that Manong Ben organized CFFC in ‘73 and still works with Filipino students throughout the region. 💫 Congrats to #bayanihanucsc for a wonderful #pilipinoculturalcelebration that honestly addressed our community’s #antiblackness, #colonialmentality, #colorism, family tensions and more. With courageous vulnerability, you prompt us to “call ourselves in” with meaningful self-reflection towards positive action.
