The destinies of two men, one from the future and one from the past, become entwined as a malevolent virus spreads throughout Level 4, a digital gaming experience that blurs dreams and reality.
After reading reviews I thought I'd give it a try, expecting some weirdness, hopefully of the good kind.
Unfortunately, it was plenty of weird, but not of the good kind. It's difficult to even recognise the official plot summary in the actual movie.
There are lonely, young men, unable to communicate with women. They are using VR simulations for mostly misogynistic fantasies. There's also a highly nationalistic component. And then things get increasingly bloody and violent. So, yeah, no.
At the end, the movie gets dedicated to Nagisa Ôshima.
