Antidepressant Discontinuation Syndrome is kicking my ass right now and it’s making me soooo mad. What do you mean, these symptoms of nausea and dizziness and tremors and aches and fatigue and sudden bouts of severe depression are being caused by the fact I’m haunted by the ghost of a mysterious preparation from my local apothecary (sertraline)??

Age-curated predator, fox-thin, bullet head

Gliding through the night’s silk —

She stops by the hedge outside our house

And peers her fortune teller eyes into the knotted branches, messy with shadow

She has seen a cat in there, months before, once

Foretold in the shine of her dinner bowl

And so she checks, and checks, and checks

Wet snout divining the winter air

And I smile at her, and shake my head, indulgently

And guide her beyond the gate, thinking her a fool

But as I unclip her collar, my eyes turn skywards

Consulting the dark velvet and its salt-scatter of diamonds

For the shooting star I saw there, months before, once

Hope held in desperate hands and burning through my fingers

And yearning, and yearning, and yearning

For the universe to blink back

#coldtalk #poetry #poem #even though I haven’t written any poetry in… years?#this came to me like a smack in the face last night when we did exactly this on our bedtime walk #I’m not a spiritual person #but I was going through a very hard spot health-wise about a month ago #and just happened to see a shooting star while taking Io’s harness and collar off in the garden after a walk #and I decided in that moment that I’d believe it was a sign that everything is going to be okay #I WILL get better #I WILL believe it’s some kind of sign from the universe #and every night since then I do the exact same thing #checking that narrow patch of sky between houses while I take off Io’s collar #hoping against all hope to see another shooting star
